Other Speakers

Jacqui Diaz, Project Coordinator, and Debbie Jefferay, Pleasanton Garbage
Service, provided an update on the City's Food Scrap and weekly Green Waste Service.
Postcards were mailed to Pleasanton residents this week announcing the Food Scrap
Program. Food scrap pails will be distributed March 15 through the week of March 22.
Both the City's website and the Pleasanton Garbage Service's website will be updated to
provide information about the Food Scrap Program. Food Scrap and a weekly Green
Waste pickup will begin on Monday, March 29.

In response to an inquiry by Mr. Campbell, Ms. Jafferay noted that part of this
program would include compost that residents may use in their gardens. Pleasanton
Garbage Services is looking at having the compost material available to Pleasanton
residents once a quarter, free of charge, at the transfer station. She noted that more
information would be forthcoming.

In response to an inquiry by Ms. Hosterman, Ms. Jafferay mentioned that a
brochure would be included in the Food Scrap pails, which will provide information on
how to participate in the program. She noted that 30 percent of waste material at the
landfill is food scraps. Instead of this material going into landfills or going into the
garbage disposal, it will be recycled, reused and made into valuable resource compost
that can be used in the community.

Bill Howell, 6651 Alisal Street, addressed Council regarding the bypass road.

There were no further speakers.

6. PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS

Item 6b
Council Direction Regarding Organization of the Bernal Pronertv Design
Competition Process. (SR 04:052)

Wayne Rasmussen, Principal Planner, presented the staffreport.

Ms. Hosterman said she had a number of comments she wanted to make but
would reserve them for later. She remains not in favor of the design competition. It
looked to her as if the fiscal impact for the design competition was up to $90,000. She
asked if that was correct?

Mr. Rasmussen said yes. He noted that the total fiscal impact for the design
competition would be $80,000 or $90,000, depending on the winner that would be
selected by the Council.

Pleasanton City Council 4 03/02/04
Minutes
