Mr. Brozosky indicated his desire for action to be taken at the December 2na
meeting with regard to the design competition process for the Bernal property.

Ms. McKeehan indicated that staffis trying to accomplish this.

It was moved by Mayo.r. (IR 03:043)

Anne Fox, 2866 Garden Creek Cimle, referred to the Traffic Committee Minutes
regarding the Stoneridge bike lane. She noted that the minutes stated the bicycle lanes
would be removed. She did not believe any of the residents in this area had been
informed of this decision. The minutes also stated that at the next Traffic Committee
meeting, a discussion would be held regarding standards for bicycle lanes and the
preference to remove bicycle lane strips throughout the City, as it might be safer as
bicycles tend to travel close to the curb. She strongly believed this matter needed to be
discussed in detail with the School District because many children travel to and from
school. There should be safe routes to schools, particularly Hart Middle School, which is
located in the area. She believed that an issue such as this should be brought to the
attention of the Parks & Recreation Commission as part of a community trails master
plan rather than maldng these types of decisions and placing them under the Consent
Calendar. This also does not allow the opportunity for a public hearing to be held where
citizens and the School District would be given an opportunity to be aware of the
situation and provide public comments.

Mayor Pico noted that the agenda item is only minutes of the Traffic Committee
meeting and by placing them under the Consent Calendar; Council would only be
accepting them. He believed the Traffic Committee was recommending additional
meetings, which would allow for further discussion. The Traffic Committee does not
have the power to make these types of changes without the Council being made aware of
them. He indicated that her concerns were valid, and pointed out that Mr. Knowles
indicated in the minutes that there needed to be significant more discussion rather than
just through a Traffic Committee meeting.

In reading the minutes, Ms. Fox believed it was a done deal and that the bicycle
lanes would be removed from Stoneridge Drive.

Pleasanton City Council 24 11/4/03
M'mutes
