Ms. Ayala was adamant/y opposed to raising taxes, including the VLF, especially after <br />the State has raised its spending. She felt it was driving businesses out of California. <br /> <br /> A substitute motion was made by Ms. Ayala, seconded by Mr. Brozosky, to sepsrate <br />the issues and indicate support for not taking the VLF revenue but also to oppose raising <br />taxes. <br /> <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Ayala and Brozosky <br />NOES: Councilmembers Campbell, Hosterman, and Mayor Pico <br />ABSENT: None <br />ABSTAIN: None <br /> <br />The roll call vote on the original motion was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Campbell, Hosterman, and Mayor Pico <br />NOES: Councflmembers Ayala and Brozosky <br />ABSENT: None <br />ABSTAIN: None <br /> <br /> Ms. Hosterman said that after attending the League of California Cities conference and <br />the East Bay League dinner, she liked the idea of conformity with all the other cities. <br /> <br />7. MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL <br /> <br /> (1) Ms. Ayala noted she would like to attend the Tri-Valley Transportation Committee <br />meeting on Friday, January 24, and the other meeting on January 31 with Senator Torlakson. <br />She wanted to make certain the meetings were noticed because it was possible there would be a <br />Council quorum. <br /> <br /> (2) Mr. Brozosky referred to an article in the newspaper about possible water flow <br />problems in the arroyo again this summer. He wanted staffto address that. <br /> <br /> Mayor Pico noted the article was in error. The water does not come from a State agency <br />and the only cost was electricity for pumping it from our groundwater basin. <br /> <br /> (3) Mr. Brozosky inquired when the City of Pleasanton would be reviewing its park in- <br />lieu fees. <br /> <br />Mr. Roush believed that item should be coming before Council in about a month. <br /> <br /> (4) Mr. Campbell referred to the fact that Mr. Bmzosky owns property near the Neal <br />Elementary School site and wondered if there were a conflict of interest since he is on the School <br />Liaison Committee.
