Mr. Campbell noted the program for high school students who have lost a parent is vitally
important.

Gail Gilpin described the program and announced the businesses named by Deloitte &
Touche as leading technology growth companies in 2002. Councilmember Campbell presented
plaques to the following businesses: Commerce One, Thoratec Corporation, and Polycom
Incorporated. Jeff Nelson, President of the Cardiovascular Division of Thoratec, accepted the
award and described how his company's product assists people with heart disease. Tom Perkins,
Vice President of Human Resources received the commendation for Polycom.

Mayor Pico said he had been present at the ribbon cutting ceremony for Polycom and was
impressed that the company had included a children's' safety fair as part of the ceremony. That
is a great way to show corporate spirit.

John Beesman, Corporate Treasurer, received the award for Commerce One. He briefly
described his business.

Other Speakers

Pamela Stoddard, Executive Director of the Pleasanton Downtown Association, thanked
Council, City staff and the citizens for support and patronage of the downtown businesses.
There were 27 events this year.

Trizia Hill, 2615 Trevor Parkway, spoke in opposition to the extension of Stoneridge
Drive to E1 Charro. She felt the possibility of removing the West Las Positas interchange from
the General Plan would have a huge impact on the east side of Pleasanton. She said the
extension of Stoneridge Drive to E1 Charro was adopted as part of the Specific Plan in 1989.
The neighborhood is now quite different than it was then. She said Stoneridge is currently four
lanes with right of way to widen it to six lanes. She did not believe it was appropriate to widen
the street to six lanes given the circumstances of the neighborhood. She quoted from the
Specific Plan regarding E1 Charro improvements and the possible connection of Stoneridge
Drive with Las Positas in Livermore. She believed that was providing a city street for an
alternate to 1-580. She said the proposed land uses for the east side of Pleasanton being used in
the traffic model would add 330 new dwellings and 2.9 million sq. ft. of commercial/office floor
area to be added to the existing uses. She did not think people had any idea what the traffic
impact would be fi.om that. She quoted the increased number of car trips and that 40% would be
cut-through traffic. She urged Council and the citizens to review the Specific Plan and consider
the traffic impact on her neighborhood and the quality of life. She asked for the removal of the
Stoneridge Drive extension to E1 Charro fi.om the General Plan.

Ms. Hosterman thanked her for bringing up this subject.

Mayor Pico indicated this is not on the agenda. There has been discussion about
eliminating the West Las Positas interchange and a report will be forthcoming. The east side
study can be brought up during the goals end priorities workshop early next year.

Pleasanton City Council 4 12/17/02
Minutes
