through hard work and dedication the club has become the envy of other clubs in the Bay Area <br />and the nation. This was due to the passion for the game and the youths that play it. There have <br />been issues regarding uniforms, liability insurance, equipment, availability of playing fields, etc. <br />The questions regarding fields were where, when, how much will it cost. They found a site near <br />the DSRSD facility, they wanted to start as soon as possible and felt they could build a field for <br />not too much money, since it was just dirt. They could get volunteers and sell coupon books as a <br />fund raiser. All that took place in the early 1970's. That was the dream of a few dedicated <br />citizens to build Pleasanton's original "field of dreams". Now thirty years and over a hundred <br />thousand coupon books later, they are presenting a check to the City of Pleasanton for $500,000. <br />This is the donation for a soccer complex at Val Vista Park. He expressed appreciation for the <br />support and guidance of Jim Wolfe, the Director of Parks and Community Services. He thanked <br />the residents of the area for supporting the park development. He also thanked all the kids and <br />their parents for the many years of selling the coupon books. He thanked the Parks and <br />Recreation Commission, Planning Commission and the City Council for the support over the <br />years. Finally, he thanked his Board of Directors for their hard work in running the organization. <br />He introduced the under age eight team, the Falcons, and the under age twelve team, the <br />Blackhawks. <br /> <br /> Mayor Pico indicated the Council appreciates the partnership created with Ballistic <br />United Soccer Club as well as the other sports teams and organizations in Pleasanton. BUSC has <br />created a high standard. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ayala reminded the community that some of the people on the BUSC Board have <br />served for years and years. She hoped the community would support the league as coaches and <br />service on the Board. Without them there would be no new fields in Pleasanton and it is a huge <br />job to mn these leagues. <br /> <br /> Ms. Michelotti thanked all those who bought those coupon books over the years. She has <br />been hearing about this "field of dreams" since moving here and being involved as a parent of <br />soccer players. She thanked Mr. Maas for his service over the years. This joint venture will <br />serve all the kids who play soccer in Pleasanton. <br /> <br />Other Speakers <br /> <br /> Dolores Bengtson, 568 Hamilton Way, thanked Sharrell Michelotti and Becky Dennis for <br />all they have done for Pleasanton. She knows how much time and effort it takes to be a <br />Councilmember. Ms. Michelotti was a Planning Commissioner for nine years and before that <br />was very active in youth sports. Ms. Dennis has showed leadership in saving Pleasanton Ridge. <br />All the time Ms. Michelotti and Ms. Dennis have been on the Council they have demonstrated <br />honesty, integrity and have made decisions for the best of the entire community. Pleasanton is a <br />better place because of their work. <br /> <br /> Dave Bouchard, 777 Peters Avenue, President of the Chamber of Commerce, echoed the <br />sentiments of others in thankin~ Ms. Michelotti and Ms. Dennis for their years of service. He <br />then referred to the October 29 Business Expo at CarrAmerica Conference Center. He thanked <br />Council for its support and partnership in that event.
