Mayor Pico indicated Ms. Michelotti had referred to the 600 units in her comments and
its reference is explained in other places in the minutes. The minutes are accurate.

Authorized settlement of pending Workers' Compensation claims of James Mangnuson
and William Eastman. (SR 02:094)

Approved plans and specifications for Val Vista Community Park, Project No. 997042;
reviewed bids and awarded the construction contract to Robert A. Bothman, Inc. for a
low Base Bid of $5,825,000, plus Alternate Bid No. I in the amount of $840,000, a
Grand Total of $6,665,000; authorized the transfer of funds totaling $1,117,250 to this
project from the following sources: $925,000 from CIP 027020, Veteran's Memorial
Building Renovation Project; $1,29,892 from CIP 007065, Phase II of the Aquatic Center
Expansion; and $62,358 from CIP 958044, Lions Wayside Park Improvements;
authorized the City Manager to execute a contract for this project; adopted Resolution
No. 02-041, granting easements to Alameda County Flood Control, Zone 7, to allow
maintenance vehicles to travel over the proposed Val Vista Community Park parking area
to access the existing maintenance road located along the G-l-1 channel bordering the
park; and from the G-1-1 channel access road to Stoneridge Drive, across a narrow strip
of City property along Stoneridge Drive, west of Denker Drive; and accepting the
easement from Alameda County Flood Control, Zone 7, for construction of a pedestrian
and a vehicular bridge across the G-1-1 channel, from the southerly end of Johnson Drive
at Val Vista Community Park. (SR 02:100)

David Lambert, 6201 Camino Del Lago, objected to including a rock climbing wall in
Val Vista Park. He also wanted lighted basketball courts and a wall for hitting tennis balls. He
was concerned about the parking provisions.

Mr. Wolfe indicated the climbing wall had been reviewed by Council and was included
in the park bid. The task force and neighbors adjacent to the park had expressed an interest in
including this as part of the plan. There is a parking area accessed off Johnson Drive and he felt
there was sufficient parking. He could not guarantee that people will not park on the streets, but
the plan is to keep most parking on site. With regard to lighted basketball courts, because of
potential impacts on the neighbors, except for pathway lights, lighting has been minimized.

Ms. Ayala suggested that Mr. Lambert attend the Parks and Recreation Commission
meetings to share his ideas with them.

Mr. Wolfe reviewed the staffreport. He explained that the funds being reallocated from
the Veterans' Hall improvement would be replaced from the facilities fund during the midyear
budget process. There is no negative impact on the Veterans' Hall project.

Ms. Michelotti indicated that had been a concern of hers and thanked staff for the
explanation that the funding is still there for the Veterans' Hall project to proceed as planned.

Robert Frank, 2772 Willowren Way, was grateful that staff had solved the funding
problem. He encouraged Council to keep its focus on upgrading the Veterans' Hall. The

Pleasanton City Council 3 05/07/02
Minutes
