MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Rick Pickering, Executive Director of the Alameda County Fairgrounds, announced the <br />opening of the County Fair and related highlights of the Fair. He presented a book to each <br />Councilmember commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Fair. <br /> <br /> Mike Oliver, Pleasanton Garbage Service, 399 Busch Road, announced a new program <br />for recycling food waste. He showed a small plastic container that could be stored under the sink <br />and emptied into the green waste container. He pointed out that ecologically, it is better to <br />recycle this food waste in compost than to have it go through the garbage disposal and through <br />the sewer treatment plant. Green waste would be collected weekly rather than the current bi- <br />weekly collection. A pilot program will start in August. He introduced Debbie Jeffery, who will <br />be responsible for recycling and public information management. <br /> <br /> Ms. Dennis explained that currently biosolids go to the land fill and this is a way to <br />recycle food waste and preserve the landfill. This is an area that is being targeted throughout <br />Alameda County.
