Item 6b
PRZ-14, City of Pieasanton
Application to allow 42-inch tall fences in residential front and side yard areas with City
approval by amending Chapter 18.84 (Site, Yard, Bulk, Usable Open Space, and
Landscaping Regulations), of Title 18 (Zoning), of the Pleasanton Municipal cod

Also consider the negative declaration prepared for the application. (SR 02: )

Brian Swift presented the staff report.

Ms. Dennis strongly supported this Code change. She felt open fencing in general was
much more attractive than the usual redwood board fences. She was glad encouragement was
being given to allow people to be more thoughtful and creative architecturally.

Ms. Michelotti pointed out that Ms. Dennis lives in a development that has open fencing
and it works well. She has long supported open fencing and stressed its use in the Vineyard
Corridor.

Ms. Dennis opened the public hearing.

A1 Wiemken referred to some gated developments that have five and six foot open fences
that look nice and asked how that related to this Code change.

Mr. Swift said several years ago the City allowed six foot wire or wrought iron open
fences in the R-I-20,000 and R-I-40,000 district for front yards. In most other Districts in the
City, where the lots are approximately 6,500 sq. fi., those taller fences are not allowed in the
front yard. The Mohr/Martin area is zoned R-I-20,000.

There were no further speakers and the public hearing was closed.

It was moved by Ms. Ayala, seconded by Ms. Michelotti, to adopt Resolution No.
02-071, approving the negative declaration with a de minimus f'mding, and to introduce
Ordinance No. 1862, amending the Pleasanton Municipal Code, Chapter 18.84, allowing
42-inch tall open fences in residential front and street side yards.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Michelotti, and Vice Mayor Dennis
NOES: None
ABSENT: Councilmember Campbell and Mayor Pico
ABSTAIN: None

Item 4k
Maintenance Plan for Bernal Property Public Parcels (SR 02:144)

James W.
