and construct additional sidewalk on the east side of the corridor to within 150 feet of Stanley
Boulevard. That trail would be in front of the building along Valley Avenue. It is anticipated
that either the City or the Park District would construct the sidewalk from Boulder Street to
Busch Road as part of the corridor.

Mr. Campbell inquired about the material to be used in construction.

Mr. Swift said most of the trail is asphalt, but will be concrete along the sidewalk in front
of this project.

Ms. Ayala referred to an agreement between the property owners and Alameda County
for an extension of Boulder. She wanted to make certain residential and industrial traffic would
be separated in that area.

Mr. Swirl said additional property was acquired by the property owners to move the
property line north to allow access from Boulder. A condition of approval requires the owners to
grant to the City an open offer of dedication for the right of way necessary to extend Boulder to
the Kiewit property.

Ms. Dennis had concerns about the look of the outer tower even though she loved the
look of the main building and its adjacent tower.

Ms. Ayala indicated she has seen the same features on other storage facilities and she
liked it.

Mayor Pico asked if there was a master plan for this area including the Kiewit, Hansen
and other surrounding properties?

Mr. Swift said there was not a plan other than the General Plan of the City.

Ms. Michelotti pointed out that consideration has been given for future access to the area
by Boulder and this project will not interfere with future development of the area.

Mayor Pico inquired about the signage for this project. He was concerned that a similar
sign such as on the Self Storage facility would be used.

Mr. Swirl said this application does not include approval of any signage. That will come
later for review. He believed the applicant will want a wall sign rather than a monument sign.

Ms. Ayala also expressed concerns about the signage on the comer. She referred to page
8 of the 11/28/01 Planning Commission staff report, which indicated Council determined not to
do an East Side study. She felt Council did not want to do a study at that time, but she believed
it was still on the priority list.

Ms. Michelotti said that instead of an East Side land use study, staffhad been directed to
do only a circulation study for the East Side.

Pleasanton City Council 6 01 / 15/02
Minutes
