The goals were to design a park that included <br />active and passive uses. There is a botanical garden, lighted pathways, a circular area that could <br />be used as an amphitheater, and variations in elevations to add to the open space perception. No <br />permanent lines will be established for the sports fields. He thanked all the Task Force members <br />and felt it has designed a park that will be appreciated by all. <br /> <br /> Ms. Michelotti asked if there had been consideration of having a joint meeting between <br />the Community Park Task Force and the Bernal Property Task Force before the issue went <br />before the Parks and Recreation Commission? <br /> <br /> Mr. Thorne pointed out that there are liaison members from each Task Force, so there is a <br />sharing of information. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ayala asked if there was disclosure regarding the lighted sports fields and noise <br />being given to the KB Homes purchasers? <br /> <br /> Ms. McKeehan indicated that information is included in the documents given to the home <br />buyers. If Council so desires, staff could draft something to be given to potential buyers. <br /> <br />6. PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS <br /> <br />Item 6a <br />PUD-15, Bay Area Self-Storage/Michael Walsh <br />Application for: (1) PUD zoning and Development Plan approval to allow the construction <br />of an approximately 139,928 sq. ft. self-storage facili .ty, including a 2,700 sq. ft. manager's <br />apartment/office space, on a 6.89 acre portion of an 8.46 acre site located at 3100 Valley <br />avenue on the northwest quadrant of Valley Avenue and the Union Pacific Railroad right- <br />of-way; and (2) a reduction in lower income housing fee. (SR 02:005) <br /> <br />Also consider the negative declaration prepared for the project. <br /> <br />Brian Swift presented the staff report. <br /> <br />Mr. Campbell inquired about the Iron Horse Trail. <br /> <br /> Mr. Swift explained that the Iron Horse Trail is the pedestrian/bicycle trail that runs from <br />north of Walnut Creek along the Southern Pacific railroad corridor and reaches to Dublin, but <br />does not yet connect to Pleasanton. The East Bay Regional Park District has a license to <br />construct the remaining portion from the BART station in Pleasanton to Shadow Cliffs Park. <br />That trail is in publicly owned former railroad corridors. However, Alameda County does not <br />own the entire corridor from Busch Road south. The East Bay Regional Park District originally <br />planned to bring the trail to Busch Road, cross Valley Avenue and run down the sidewalk on the <br />west side and under the underpass to Stanley Boulevard, where one would have to cross Stanley <br />Boulevard to get to Shadow Cliffs Park.
