also a small addition in back of the house to expand one of the areas for eating and gathering, so <br />the rest of the house could be used for lodging families. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ayala was concerned about spending so much for renovation, when it is not known if <br />there are funds for continued operation of the facility. She was concerned that if the house does <br />have to go back onto the market, that the agencies would not get their money back. <br /> <br /> Ms. Michelotti said a piece of property that is not maintained will indeed cost a lot in the <br />long run. But the improvements proposed will make this operation more efficient. <br /> <br /> Mr. Wolfe said there are additional improvements necessary for the appearance. The <br />neighbors in the area of the shelter have been supportive over the years and it is important to <br />make the facility an inviting asset to the neighborhood because of their support. There are play <br />areas in the back, and fencing and landscaping issues that need to be addressed. <br /> <br /> Mayor Pico felt Council will have to deal with operating issues. He felt strongly that this <br />valuable asset needed to be protected for this region. He was confident that an inter-regional <br />cooperation with the County, cities, and non-profit organizations will make it possible to find the <br />operating funds to keep the facility going. <br /> <br />Ms. Ayala asked how many people are served by this facility. <br /> <br />Mr. Wolfe said last year 150 people were assisted and there was a waiting list. <br /> <br />Mayor Pico invited public testimony. There were no speakers. <br /> <br /> Ms. Michelotti said that since this facility was recently closed, the churches in Livermore <br />and Pleasanton have been working to provide a place for families to come for assistance. She <br />said she had carefully reviewed this situation and felt the overriding consideration was that if this <br />facility is lost, it will be very difficult to find another location that would be as accepted by the <br />neighborhood. <br /> <br /> It was moved by Ms. Michelotti, seconded by Ms. Dennis, to adopt Resolution No. <br />02-017, authorizing the City of Pleasanton to join with the City of Livermore and the <br />County of Alameda to purchase and rehabilitate a family crisis shelter in Livermore. <br /> <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Campbell, Dennis, Michelotti, and Mayor Pico <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br />ABSTAIN: None <br /> <br /> Ms. Ayala wanted to make certain there was accountability and records for the operation <br />of this facility. <br /> <br />Pleasanton City Council 23 02/05/02 <br />Minutes <br /> <br /> <br />
