Item 6c
Pleasanton Downtown Association Business Improvement District Advisory. Board Report
and Budget and Levy. of Assessment for 2002.. (SR 01:268)

Mayor Pico indicated that he was a member of the Pleasanton Downtown Association
and abstained from the item.

David Iremonger presented the staff report.

Mr. Campbell asked if the business of the gas station on Main Street was impacted when
Main Street is closed?

Ms. McKeehan said staffhas never received a complaint from that business. Some
businesses like closing Main Street and some hate it. There is a limitation often closures per
year because that was determined to be the most acceptable number by the businesses and
surrounding neighborhoods. The contract also sets forth a provision that the City will match
whatever assessments are collected by the PDA.

Vice Mayor Michelotti declared the public hearing open.

Pamela Stoddard, Executive Director of the Pleasanton Downtown Association, reviewed
the schedule of events for the year 2002. These events are designed to bring people downtown.
She thanked the City for its support. The PDA's success is based on partnerships with the City
and the downtown merchants.

Mr. Campbell asked if the historical walking tour would be expanded.

Ms. Stoddard said the walking tour brochure was developed over the last several months.
The Committee started the program with employees of local hotels and motels to give them an
understanding of what was in the downtown. There is discussion to expand it, but no discussion
has focused to opening it to the public as yet. Anyone can obtain a brochure at local merchants
for a self-guided tour.

Ms. Michelotti asked whether the Friday in the Park Concerts would be extended to
September.

Ms. Stoddard said the concerts stop in August because there are so many other things
going on in September and the Board decided the staff could not handle so many things so close
together.

It was moved by Ms. Ayala, seconded by Ms. Dennis, to adopt Resolution
No. 01-122, accepting and approving the report of the Pleasanton Downtown Association
Advisory Board and levying the annual assessment for 2002.

Pleasanton City Council 15 12/04/01
Minutes
