Ms. Michelotti asked about the original green base color of the building. Option
C was a choice, and now there are two other options available. She noted there now is a
color scheme "J." She asked if the Pickerells think scheme $ is an acceptable scheme.

Mr. Pickerell said that color scheme "Y' is also deemed to be acceptable by the
family.

There being no further speakers, the public hearing was closed

Ms. Michelotti commented on the background of this project. When she received
the color scheme that was approved by the Planning Commission, she thought this was
the revised version they were going to see, rather than what had already been approved
by the Planning Commission. Formerly she had been shown the original, very intense,
color scheme, so to her, this was far improved. She thought at that point this is a big
improvement and she did not have any problem with it. But that is not where Council is
this evening. When she looked at the alternatives and received the color swatches in the
Council packet, the staff recommendation was to go to the gray and tan colors. She
coml~red the color scheme "J" option that is actually very close to the color of the wall
in the library meeting room. She asked Councilmembers to imagine this color in
sunlight. It is going to look a lot lighter. Earlier this evening she was watching what the
wall actually looked llke. She said that she didn't very often disagree with staff, but
asked why do we have to have every building in Pleasanton gray, or tan, or beige? What
is wrong with having a mint green, a light colored green building? She does not see
anything wrong with it. Her choice is definitely color scheme "J.' Unless it holds up
everything, then she would reconsider, but felt this has gone way too far, in her
estimation. She hoped that Council would look at the other alternative and ask
themselves the question, "Do you want a gray stone building with beige on it, or do you
want to have something that maybe is a little bit different, but still acceptable?"

Ms. Micbelotti made a motion to approve color scheme "J." There was no second
and the motion died.

Ms. Ayala said she was pleased the Pickerells could work together with staff to
come up with the building that is now before the Council for approval.

Ms. Dennis was pleased that the Pickerells could get some of their color logo on
the building.

Mr. Pico said he was pleased to see the Peridot Company think "outside of the
box" ~nd to see this kind of building come forward in Pleasanton.

It was moved by Ms. Ayala, seconded by Ms. D~nnis, to deny the appeal and
approve the design review application to allow construction of an approximately 20,
982 sq. ft., one- and two-story commercial building on 1.44 +/- acres of land at 3283
Bernal Avenue, subject to the conditions in Exhibit "B' and subject to the color of
the Imilding being color scheme "F'.

Pleas~ton City Council 21 07/17/01
Minules
