She thinks it will ease everyone's <br />mind that she is going to keep an open mind as to where the trial will be located, but that <br />she is definitely a supporter of the trail system. She hoped staff would bring back as soon <br />as possible the update. <br /> <br /> Ms. Michelotti thought that if everyone is just looking at the broader picture and <br />what might happen with the Master Trail System that goes to Santa Rita or beyond. They <br />need to understand that what is before us tonight is an approval that will get children to a <br />Middle School safely. The Parkside people chose to move into a wonderful development <br />and to enjoy the Sports Park that is there. She recalled when she was on the Planning <br />Commission it was never promised there would never be a Master Trail System. The <br />Master Trail System has been around for a long time. It has been a part of Pleasanton's <br />General Plan for a long time. She believed the residents will find the area better <br />maintained when the trail is opened than how it is at the present. In her opinion, <br />anticipation of something can be far worse than the reality. She is in favor of the Trails <br />Master Plan. It is an opportunity for the community to enjoy the beauty of open space. <br />The City is almost at build-out and that is one way we can enjoy the trails and the <br />connecting trails that we do have. It is always hard when there are opposing forces. <br />Council does listen to the residents. It should have never been represented to Parkside <br />residents that this Arroyo was their private domain. In the future we need to work <br />together as a community to see what could be better to resolve the future plan. She will <br />support the trail plan in the future. <br /> <br /> Ms. Dennis said it is great having this project discussed by the Council with all of <br />the stakeholders in the room together. This is probably the first time they got to know <br />each other and to hear each other's concerns. She agreed with her fellow <br />Couneilmembers' comments, particularly with usage being linked to safety. She thinks <br />that in the communities that have opened the trails to public use, the experience of the <br />residents that are directly adjacent to the trails has been good. The City would not go out <br />and develop a plan that is designed to inconvenience people and impact them negatively. <br />It is Council's goal and the City's goal that when trails are made accessible to the public <br />and they are our responsibility to manage them, we are going to make it work for <br />residents the very best way we can. We are not asking anybody to suffer impacts that are <br />unusual for people located next to a park or next to a trail. She believes that they will <br />find their experience at least as good as anybody in any other community that has a home <br />near a trail. She knows the outstanding job that staff, the Parks and Community Services <br />Department, and the Police Depashnent does in dealing with these issues. She is very <br />supportive of this item and invites the community to be involved in the Trails Master <br />Plan because it a high priority item. The cone, ems that the community has about <br />congestion, about the inability to get out of your car because of the dangers to pedestrians <br />and cyclists is a real concern to Council. She feels the trail will be an asset or she would <br />not support it. These are developed by consensus and she urged people to attend the <br />future meetings regarding the Trail Master Plan update. <br /> <br /> Mr. Pico said he supports trails and the concept of the Master Plan for trails.
