Ms. McKeehan indicated the City/School Liaison Committee is key to that process. It
has done a good job in the last few years setting priorities, presenting them to the Council and
the School Board, and following up with stares reports. City staff will make certain that the
various deptuh:~ents are involved when necessary. She acknowledged that the master plan will
have to be updated periodically and that will be handled through the City/School Liaison
Committee.

Mr. Wolfe indicated the Parks and Community Se~,ices Depa, tment will have a
lel~lership role, but that is not exclusive to that department. He emphasized that this is not just a
process of the City and School District, but requires the involvement of non-profit organizations,
the faith community, and every aspect of the entire community.

Ms. Dennis asked how frequent the status reports would be forthcoming?

Mr. Wolfe believed that quarterly or semi-annuai reports would be given. That would be
decided by the Liaison Committee.

Ms. Ayala indicated there are numerous resources in the community already
implementing parts of the master plan. The task is to bring all that together. She had concerns
about putting this extra burden on the Parks and Community Services Department, but that will
be followed up with the Liaison Conunittee. This process will be followed on every agenda of
the joint meetings between the City and School Board and on the agenda of the Liaison
Committee.

Ms. Dennis did not want to lose track of all the great work. It is a great plan.

Ms. Michelotti assured her that the Liaison Committee will not lose track of the progress
on this plan. Now that there is a plan, we have to decide who will do what part of the plan. She
thanked Ms. Ayala for all her work on this committee.

Mr. Campbell expressed some concern about the involvement of the faith community.
This is a plan sponsored by the government and school community and he was concerned about
blun'ing the line between church and state and the perception that certain religious would be
promoted.

Mr. Wolfe indicated that during the process, there was a representative from the
ministerial society. He felt that person was of tremendous help and value to the committee in
terms of his involvement with young people of the community. There was never an issue of a
particular faith. The emphasis wes on the faith community being a valued partner in the work to
be undertaken. There are a tremendous number of resources in the faith community for young
people to assist in implementing the master plan.

Ms. Miehelotti referred to the Catholic Charities organization, which works in
consortium with government programs and other non-profits in serving the needy and under-
served.

Pl~asanton City Council 18 06/05/01
Minutes
