Ms. Ayala felt that Mr. Harlan would want the best quality park for the benefit of
the houses surrounding it. She especially liked the grove of trees with benches.

Mr. Harlan agreed he would like to have the best park possible, but he has a
budget he must stay within.

Mayor Pico asked what had to be removed from the park in order to stay within
the budget.

Mr. Wolfe said that had not been determined. One suggestion was to use stamped
concrete instead of paving stones. If Council likes the proposed design, the plan will be
taken back to the Commission to determine where costs can be saved.

Ms. McKeehan felt that given the current construction market, the bids may come
in lower than staffis estimating.

Mayor Pico asked if moving the walkway to the perimeter of the park could save
costs.

Mr. Wolfe indicated that the Commission wanted the walkway in the middle to
provide a buffer for the play area from the street.

Mayor Pico suggested a portion be turfed and used as a dog park.

Mr. Harlan said the path could be narrowed to save some cost.

Ms. Dennis suggested selling paving stones with names.

Mayor Pico said that may be done for the community park. The main issue at this
meeting is to approve the design. If there is a funding shortfall then staffcan address
that.

Mr. Campbell found it difficult to believe that Greenbfiar could not find the funds
to build a park the way everyone would like it to be. He would be curious to see how
much money was made on this project and felt $150,000 would not be that much in
comparison.

Mr. Harlan said $150,000 by itself is not a lot, but when you consider all the
changes that have been made to the project and some of the other issues, the aggregate is
quite staggering. However, with that said, Greenbriar is committed to building the best it
can and working with city staffto build within the budget.

Mayor Pico believed that there will be more competition for a project like this and
the costs will go down. He cited the costs for the LAVWMA pipeline where there have
dramatic reductions in costs.

Pleasanton City Council 21 04/03/01
Minutes
