Ms. DeMarcus felt it would enhance the community to have a station it will
embrace.

Ms. Ayala asked if Mr. Haggerty had a preference that this be a tiered parking lot
at the Fairgrounds?

Ms. De Marcus indicated that was also the first time she had heard that idea. The
main issue is to find a permanent site. She felt it would be difficult to find funding for
tiered parking.

Mayor Pico indicated Council was also frustrated with some of the delays in the
process. He believed the supervisors are aware that no plans for a station on the Bernal
property can begin until the committee completes its process. He felt people must realize
Pleasanton must complete its process.

Ms. De Marcus realized that this will take some time and Mr. Haggerty is aware
of that.

Mr. Pico said the intent was that this was a temporary site, but it was never ruled
out that it could be a permanent site.

Ms. Ayala referred to the April 7, 1998 staff report where it talks about the
possibility that this would be a permanent site.

Robert Cordtz, 262 West Angela, believed Pleasanton should have had a
representative on the ACE Board. He disputed the idea that the station could be a
permanent station. The residents put up with all the downtown events. This town is
designed to hold only so many people in a neighborhood. You put 30-40,000 people
downtown on a weekend and expect us to live with it. He referred to the possibilities on
the Bernal property and felt by the time the committee gets to the point where it considers
the train station, there won't be room left. After ten years of looking at the property, he
did not know why you needed to spend another ten months. He said Harrison and
Augustine are two blind streets and there have been numerous traffic accidents. He said
there are big problems on Peters Avenue and West Angela. He also objected to putting
this item at the end of the agenda. People can't stay to the end of the meeting.

Warren Otte, 4129 Churchill Drive, said he is a veteran ACE train rider. He
appreciated the residents putting up with traffic in the area. Across the street from his
house is a public pool and he has problems too. He said the reason some train riders park
on the street is it is difficult to get out of the parking lot. When one comes back on the
train it is very dangerous getting out of the lot. He supports opening the gate and felt
more people would park in the lot, because it would be easier to get out of the lot at the
evening. He felt the number of handicapped spaces should be reduced. He also
suggested paving the two dirt spaces. His other suggestion was to get WHEELS to
provide transport so passengers could reliably arrive at no later than 5:30 a.m. He said
that during the Fair a tram is provided so people can park near the off-site betting site.

Pleasanton City Council 24
Minutes

03/20/01
