(SR 01:056)

Randy Lum introduced Jeff Knowles, the newly hired Traffic Engineer, who will
replace retiring Bill van Gelder.

Bill van Gelder presented the staff report.

Ms. Ayala was surprised at the remarks of Mr. Haggerty in the newspaper and
asked if there had been any discussions between staff and his office.

Mr. van Gelder said there had been many discussions with County representatives
over time to resolve various problems. The County suggested opening the gate or
opening another driveway into the facility. The critical problem is the funding of any
solutions. The Congestion Management Agency (CMA) provides board members to
ACE and it does not have a lot of money. CMA is looking to cities to provide parking.
There has been external help for parking in other cities. It is possible to get assistance in
funding, but we need a plan before we can seek fimding.

Erlene DeMarcus, representing Supervisor Scott Haggerty, who is chairing the
ACE Board. She said she was involved with the ACE train many years ago, when no one
thought it would be a success. It has proven itself to be vital to the community and
carries 700 riders a day. The Bernal site was selected as a temporary site. We need to
find a permanent station site and have it be part of the community. She believed
Livermore got funding from the State for its station. Supervisor Haggerty looks forward
to working with the City and with ACE on a relocation plan. You need a plan before you
find apply for funding.

Mr. van Gelder felt it was critical to have a plan supported by the governmental
agencies.

Pleasanton City Council 23 03/20/01
Minutes
