Maureen Hart, 6513 Arlington Drive, felt the building was too big. She had
concerns about privacy issues for the houses on Diamond Court. The windows of the
office building will look directly into the bedroom of the two-story house. She
understands that the building meets City requirements, but felt those requirements were
established before the massive growth in Silicon Valley. There is a lot of traffic on Sunol
Boulevard already. She urged Council to pursue installation of the noise-reducing
surface on Sunol Boulevard. She said the commute begins at 4:00 a.m. She also
expressed concerns about the outsite smoking area on the south side and she wanted
screening for the area.

William Olson, 301 Diamond Court, indicated the North Sycamore Specific Plan
includes an element to preserve the character of the neighborhood. In order to do that he
wanted a five foot berm from the eucalyptus tree to the parking lot. He also wanted a
wrought iron or steel tube frame fence. The higher the berm the shorter the fence
required. He pointed out that the eucalyptus tree would have masked the building, but it
has recently been pruned and no longer serves that purpose. He wanted to be certain
more trees would be planted on the north side of the tree. He disagreed that there could
be no plantings under the eucalyptus. With regard to the smoking area, he suggested
there be a room inside the building with appropriate filters and ventilation. He still had
questions about the massiveness of the building. He wanted to see a photo study of the
site to show its relation to the existing residences and indicated he had suggestions on
where to take the photos.

Mr. Campbell thanked him for the picture he provided. He asked why the fence
was necessary.

Mr. Olson preferred there be a fence to prevent people from walking through the
area. A berm would also be useful.

Ms. Michelotti asked where the fence would be located in relation to the berm.
Would it be in front?

Mr. Olson assumed it would be on the property line, but it didn't have to be. He
believed the berm would be near Diamond Court behind the existing fence.

Ms. Michelotti asked if he were happy with the amount of landscaping.

Mr. Olson said yes.

Ms. Michelotti asked if the berm and proposed landscaping would be enough of a
deterrent to pedestrian traffic?

Mr. Olson said he had never considered that there would not be a fence. He felt a
wrought iron fence would be decorative to the entrance to Diamond Court.

Pleasanton City Council 6 02/20/01
Minutes
