demand to have a golf course and the lighted sports fields. The remainder of the public
uses on the central parcel can be decided a.s part of Phase II.

Ms. Michelotti asked if Mayor Tarver wanted a nine-hole golf course on the
western parcel if it is deemed to work7

Mayor Tin'vet said yes. There is still an option to have an 18-hole course if the
community wants. He felt the issue was what to put in the open space on the west side if
there is no golf course.

Mr. Pico said that would be discussed by the community.

Mr. Tarver believed that if the City does not have ownership of the area arotmd
the western parcel until all the products on the east side are known, he did not know how
a golf course could be planned.

Mr. Pico said the park was already included in the unde~ying motion. The
decision at this time should be about item 5, whether to hiclude the golf course in Phase
of the plan or whether to adopt staff recommendation to postpone it m Phase II.

It was moved by Mr. Pico to include in the underlying motion the golf course
as part of the community discussion for the overall uses in Phase 11.

There was no second.

It was moved by Mayor Tarver, seconded by Ms. Dennis, to include in the
underlying motion the provision of a golf course in the Phase 1 plans, provided the
Park and Recreation Commission, Planning Commission, golf course committee and
staff have a proposal.

Mayor Tarver did not want an 18-hole golf course on the Bemal Property;
however things change. The best intentions could fail. He did not know where an 18-
hole course could be located if plans for the Happy Valley golf course fail. Ite did not
want to use all the property in the central parcel for a golf course because there would not
be room for a cultural arts center, ACE station, lighted sports fields, school thcilities, or
anything else.

Ms. Dennis liked the motion. She felt the western parcel was problematic. If a
golf course could not be placed there. the land could be used for something else. If it is
used for a golf course, it is possible to find land for another nine holes on the central
parcel and those resources would be preserved. She felt it was good lbr the potential
home buyers to know what the open space was desigimted as.

Ms. Michelotti clarified that if the golf course could be part of Phase I, she would
support the motion.

Pleasanton City Council 23 08/21/00
Minutes
