Mr. Pico said the same question was asked with regard to Measure I and 64% of
the voters agreed to pay $50 million to buy the propetty and then proceed to go through a
process to decide what to do with the property later.

Mayor Tarver wanted it to be clear to the comraunity that there will be more than
400 units built in 2001, because the appllcant's intention is to build as many affordable
~mits as possible plus the 175 units allocated in the Growth Management agmemeut. If
there are I00 units left over for first-come/first-served allocation, that will take the
number of allocated units over 400. Ilowever, he t~lt this project was worth doing that,
even though he has tried to keep the number of units down to 350 units, because there are
350 acres that will not have houses on them.

Ms. Ayala was excited to finish this project and she had no reservations
whatsoever. She is satisfied this is what the community is looking for and she thanked
the Measure I connnlrlee for its efforts in the last election. If the community had not
voted to tax itself to buy this land, the City would not be in a position to vote on a project
like this. She fek this is one of the best things to happen to Pleasanton.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayaia, Michelotti, Pico, and Mayor Tarver
NOES: Councilmember Dennis
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

It was moved by Ms. Miehelotti, seconded by Ms. Dennis, to review the berm
placement after the golf course placement is reviewed in a few weeks.

A substitute motion was made by Mr. Pico, seconded by Ms. Ayala, to accept
the staff recommendation on Item 11, to locate the berm adjacent to 1-680 and to be
as high as possible while still affording views of Pleasantun Ridge above the 650-foot
elevation for southbound vehicles.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Ayala, Pico, and Mayor Tarver
NOES: Councilmembers Dennis and Michelotti
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Mayor Tarver still had concerns about the timing of transfer of public land. He
was anxious to get the 30-50 acres of public park as par[ of Phase I. He understood
staffs concern about determining whether a nine-hole golf course would fit on the
westem parcel. If the golf committee and staff cannot come up with good reasons for not
having the course on the western parcel, he would like to include that. He understood
there are issues related to the golf course that need to ha resolved, but he believed there is

Pleasanton City Council 22 08/21/00
Minutes
