Recreation Commission; August 7, 2000 - Housing Commission; August 9, 2000 -
Planning Comtnission; August 10, 2000 - City Council; August 2L 2000 City Council;
August 28, 2000 - City Council.

Ms. Ayaia asked if this was a normal process to review a PUD or is the City of
Pleasanton doing this more quickly.

Mr. Swift said the City Council would have the same recommendations fi'om the
same commissions that normally take place, but that in this particular instance,
everything is being done quicker. Counting last year the Plmming Commission will have
had eight public hearings on the project before taking final action.

Ms. Michelotti asked if the City was advertising these meetings in the media. She
wanted to make sure that the public is informed and has advance notice of each of the
meetings.

Mr. Swirl said that the newspapers were informed of the scheduled meetings.
Legal notification is in the legal ad section, along with either the quarter- or half- page ad
that lists the highlights of these meetings.

Ms. Dennis said she had concertm regarding the staff reports and materials which
the people can actually study. She said if someone comes to a meeting and is seeing
something for the very first time, she feels that it is difficult for the public to provide
meaningful and informed input. She undemtands from the Planning Commission that it
was very difficult for people to get materials. The materials were not available until the
night of the meeting. The Commission had materials and the public did not have material
available to them, therefore people had to come to the meeting and look at the
presentation boards and booklets during the meeting. She l~lt that more time was needed
in order to study an issue ofthis importance.

Ms. Ayala discussed the number of people in attendance at the Planning
Commission meetings along with the availability of written materials for the public to
mad.

Mr. Swift said that approximately 5 to 10 people spoke at these meetings.

Mayor Tarver said Council had two workshop sessions with the Plmming
Commission and Park and Recreation Conmaission. He did not recall seeing a large
number of people in attendance. Ttfis experience was much different when the earlier
plans called for 1900 units. He wanted to make sure that people see these meetings on
television, the meetings are noticed on TV 30, the ineetings are noticed in the
newspapers, He wants to get the message out that people are encouraged to attend in
order for the City to receive the greatest mount of input possible. He strongly
encouraged the public to participate in this very important decision that will affect the
future of Pleasanton.

Pleasanton City Council 9 08/01/00
Minutes
