Robert Cordtz, 262 West Angels, spokc in support of the plan and was very happy
to have this kind of company come to Plea.santon. He urged Council to unanimously
approve this project and welcome this company.

Maureen Hart, 6513 Arlington Drive, expressed conditional support for the
project so long as PE Biosystems buys and develops the property. Her main concems
were the view and traffic and she supported limiting the nmnber ofpurking spaces. She
wanted to make certain the design guidelines include the following: no lakeside
development; maximum building area of 960,000 sq. ft.; maximum building height of 48
feet; maximum building pad elevation of 371 feet in the Central Zone; no building shall
exceed three stories; and 400 foot setback from Sunol Boulevard. She had little faith in
the effectiveness of transportation systems and felt there would still be a lot of people
driving to and from work.

Ralph Rajs, 3535 Kings Canyon Court, Chair of the Pleasanton Chamber of
Commerce, expressed support for the project~ This is a quality tenant for Pleasanton and
he believed PE Biosystems will be an excellent corporate citizen. He appreciated the
phased approach.

Wallace Mayor, 5872 Corte Mente, supported the prqject. He indicated he was
fortumqte to live and work in the same community. He believed PE Biosystems will be
good for the City and offer more citizens the luxury of living and working here.

Jan Batcheller, 164 Main Street, Suite C, believed the proposed plan was the
highest and best use for this property. Citizens have reaffirmed this use with each
General Plan for over thirty years. Kaiser Aluminum has been a very good corporate
citizen for Pleasanton and moved its sales office here and this would be nice way to say
thank you to Kaiser for its support for many years. PE Biosystems has been a good
citizen in Foster City and she believed this was a great company with a bright future
which will generate less employees on the site than most other sites of this size. This is a
phased project that will not be built overnight. Ihe 960,000 square feet will generate less
traffic than most 600,000 square foot office uses. The plan has a 28% FAR on 80 acres,
which is one of the lowest in the commtmity. It will provide 400 job openings for
Pleasanton residents and it is difficult to imagine a more ideal use or user for the site. A
vote for this would affirm the General Plan, reduce commute trallic and offer great ,job
opportunities llx existing residents. She urged Council to unanimously approve the
project.

Willian~ Olson, 301 Diamond Court, stated that PE Biosystems will be a good
user for the land and he looked forward to having them as neighbors. He felt the project
is good with setbacks and will preserve views. He had concerns about tying development
ofSunol Boulevardwlth this project. He recommended use ofrubbe~zed asphalt for top
paving of Sunol Boulevard to deaden the noise. He said the standard for acceptable noise
at the residential property line is 60 dB. The current measurement for Ms property is well
above that. Ite indicated other advantages of rubberized asphalt are longer life, resistance
to cracking, and less maintenance over time.

Pleasanton City Council 11 07/11/00
Minutes
