He encouraged the council to select option 3 of the staff report. <br /> <br /> Brad Hirst, 1811 Santa Rita Road, #128, spoke on behalf of Jeff and Ulysses <br />Early, reading a letter submitted addressing the agenda item. He added there is prescntly <br />a very high level of prosperity and he receives a number of calls looking lbr office space <br />to rent in the Pleasanton downtown area. He was in favor of a comprehensive review of <br />the downtown area and fek that the single biggest area of improvement would be to <br />address the traffic circulation. <br /> <br /> Wally Mayor, 5872 Cone Monte, said that he also wanted flexibility and <br />economic vitality and felt the downtown area has been working just fine with the <br />flexibility it now has. <br /> <br /> Keith Wardin, 2931 Liberty Drive, is opposed to the suggested ordinance. He felt <br />this is was bad idea, a solution in search of a problem. Mandating retail only is rent <br />control and an artificial manipulation of the market. A second danger is the change in the <br />downtown area that is the hallmark of American lif~. This endangers our historic <br />downtown area. <br /> <br /> Roy Moret, 129 Sand Wedge Place, Walnut Creek, 94598, is a property owner on <br />Main Street. He is finding that people are not supportive of this issue. Specifically a~sked <br />to state their objections to this were Stanley James, Margaret Leonardirmi, Juan llegstrom <br />and Bill Struthers. <br /> <br />Betty Morgan, 5270 Riverdale Court, read letters she previously submined. <br /> <br /> Pat Murray, 4470 Mirador Drive, discussed her experiences from being <br />temporarily handicapped and her problems patronizing some downtown businesses. <br /> <br /> AI Bronzlnl, 719 Main Street, was an early member and past president of the <br />Downtown Association. Ite commented that the downtown area is a well-diversified <br />business district. The variety of services and goods is more than found in most other <br />downtown areas. A retail only ordinance would severely impact this diversily and restrict <br />the property o~vner's ability to lease the properties, especially in difficult economic times. <br />The issue could become a major crisis. Market forces work and have made the <br />Pleasanton downtown what it is today. Everyone is proud of the conununity and it's the <br />envy of many other cities. It serves the community well with the wondertiff mix that is <br />presemly located there. He feels that his property fights could be compromised with the <br />implementation of a restrictive ordinance. He requests that option 3 be adopted. <br /> <br /> Peter MacDonald, 400 Main Street, Suite 210, spoke on behalf of Barry Swcnson <br />Bnllders, owners ofthe Round Table Pizza Building, 500 block of Maln Street. There is <br />much concern on his part of mandatory first floor retail and he would be very hesitant in <br />investing if this were a requirement by the City.
