Mayor Tarver announced the PG&E scoping meeting next Tuesday from 7:00 to
9:00 p.m. in the Library about the expansion of the Tri-Vailey electrical capacity for
2002. He urged evaryonc to attend.

Mr. Lure indicated staff would be aFtending the meeting and urging the PUC to do
a full analysis of alternatives that would avoid residential areas.

Mayor Tarver requested an agenda item to discuss the railroad cars on the
Alameda County Transportation Corridor.

Ms. Acosta indicated an agenda item is necessary if the Co~mcil position is
differera from what was outlined in the letter from staff. Staff had worked on the
situation from the aspect of a Code violation. She believed the Mayor may be concerned
that the letter from staff does not represent the Council's position.

Ms. Michelotti agreed with the leFtcr from staff.

Ms. Acosta indicate Alameda County had contacted staff to see if the City was in
favor of removing the railroad cars. Staff agreed the cars should be removed.

Ms. Dennis asked who will pay for them to be removed.

Ms. Acosta responded that the individuals who put them them in the first place.
Them was never a permit process that the City was part of and the items that were to be
done to clean up the area, as set lbrth in a staff report in 1996, were never accomplished.

Mayor Tarver wanted to make certain the public is aware the City's official
position is to remove the boxcars. When he attends the Farmers Market, he sees children
climbing all over the railroad cars. He l~lt the boxcars were an asset, not a liability. He
wanted the community to understand the City is saying they are a liability and should bc
removed, if that is the will of the Council.

Ms. Michelotti indicated this had been brought up at another hearing and she
wanted to clarify that there have been complaints about the condition of the cars by a
property owner.

Mayor Tarvet again asked if there were three votes to put it on an agenda.

Ms. Ayala asked to see the staff report from 1996 to see what was requested to be
done. She thought the cars could be an asset to the community and felt it was probably
beneficial to coordinate with the possible steam train coming to the community. As the
cars currently stand, she was not certain they were an asset.

Ms. Dennis referred to Mayor Tarver's comment that the cars were being used as
a playground during the Farmers Market and expressed concern about liability if a child
were hurt.

Pleasanton City Council 24 05/02/00
Minutes
