Item 6g
Potential reschedulin~ of Council meetings to accommodate municioal dections
(SR00:ll3)

Deborah Acosta presented the staff report.

Ms. Michelotti suggested starting the meeting at 6:00 p.m. on election nights.
lrying to have a short agenda doesn't always work. In addition, there is an cflbrt to have
only one meeting in December and last year one meeting was canceled in November as
well.

Ms. Acosta said what usually happens is when a meeting is caneclod, more
special meetings arc added.

Ms. Michelotti said this was not a big issue. She objected to trying to shorten
meeting agenda and hold items off because it happens to be an election night. She felt
the solution was to move the meeting.

Ms, Ayala said starting a meeting at 6:00 p.m. was not practical because people
don't get home from work that early. She would be happy leaving the meeting schedule
as it is and trying to shorten the agenda.

Mayor Tarver felt the only ones who really care are those actively involved in the
election.

Ms. Dennis did not want to make special accommodations. She felt it was a relief
to do something besides waiting on election night. It was not worthwhile to change the
whole schedule.

No action was taken by Council on this item.

7. MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL

Ms. Ayala referred to the forthcoming Planning Commission discussion on public
notices and wanted to make certain Council received the same information. She
reminded everyone of the Downtown First Wednesday event which starts tomorrow at
6:00 p.m.

Ms. Michelotti asked Mr. van Gclder to investigate the turning movement at
Owens Drive and Hacienda Drive where people are turning fight from Owens to
Hacienda to get onto the fleeway. There is a long backup there which impedes trallic
going into Walmart. She asked if a double fight turn lane would help that situation in the
afternoon.

Pleasanton City Council 23 05/02/00
Minutes
