Mr. Fowler said the treatment plant has been the focus of odor mitigation; usually
the sludge lagoons are not a problem and as a matter of fact there has not been a problem
with them for ten years.

Ray Oliva, 3109 Camdon Court, indicated he had appeared before Council at the
urging of his wife to talk about a street that needed repair. The City responded quickly
and fixed the street. He then came back to Council again at the urging of his wife
regarding the issue of injecting reverse osmosis treated wastewater into the groundwater
basin. He and his wife did not understand how some agency outside of the City could
make a decision without some representation from the City. His wit~ has worked hard in
the background for a City that she loved and the family t~lt safe in. He complimented the
Police, Fire and Business License Departments as well as other City employees for their
professionalism and care for the citizens. His wife also worked to get a park at
Pleasanton Meadows and a bike path for the children. His wife's name is Carol Ann
Oliva and she died on January 20, 2000 after 43 years of marriage and being a resident of
Pleasanton for almost 23 years. His family wanted to tell all this to the Council and to
enter his wife's name in the official record. He extended his thanks to Council and
encouragement in continuing to develop this wonderful city that puts families first. He
hoped Council would continue in the same spirit that his wife loved so much.

Kathy Narum, President of Pleasanton Seahawks, announced that Pleasanton
would be hosting the 2000 Short Course Far Western Swimming Championships at the
Aquatic Center March 30-April 2. There will be 1500 swimmers representing 200 teams
from 20 states. There will be 35 Seahawks participating. Many kids have attended many meetings to
discuss this and there is still no park or track. Chip wrapped Kendall in red tape to
demonstrate their point. He again asked Council for these facilities. He stated that East
Bay Regional Park District has indicated an interest in cooperating with Pleasanton in
using land by Shadow Cliffs and asked Council to reconvene the liaison committee with
the Park District to discuss this. He suggested using Robertson Park in Livermore as a
model.

Mr. Pico indicated a BMX track was included on the CounciF s list of highest
priority projects, along with many other projects.

Pleasanton City Council 4 03/21/00
Minutes
