on the ballot and an explanation was given that the City only had confirmation of a
willingness to sell the property in October 1999 with the requirement that the item be on
the March 2000 ballot. She believed that the reason this project has been worked on for
so long with San Francisco is that a plan had not been reached that the people would
want. Measure I gives the City a chance to provide what the people want with local
control. She expressed her love for the community, its people, business parks, a great
downtown, residential areas and beautiful viewsheds. What is missing are the items on
the master facilities list. This gives us a chance for those items and for open space. If
amenities are not constructed soon, it just means the property is open a little longer. The
concepts for childcare, an art center, performing art center, community center, open
space, starter homes, lighted sports fields, recreation uses or civic parks are worth a yes
vote.

Bob Nickeson, 4260 Pleasanton Avenue, indicated he did not mind paying to keep
what he likes about Pleasanton, versus getting what he doesn't like for free. He liked the
Bemal property and it is worth keeping. He did not want to place a burden on the
business commtmity, but the amenities that make Pleasanton a nice place to live are good
for business. He urged the voters to keep in mind the needs of the School District for a
new high school site and the need for a new station for the ACE train. That is another
significant source of funding for public facilities on the property. He commended
Council and staff for the work done to give the community the choice.

Ms. Michelotti assured the public that the Council would use the funds from the
bond sales to enhance the Berual property.

James Swofford, 33941 Macmillan Way, Fremont, representing the Pacific
Locomotive Association, referred to comments from the Task Force about rutruing the
historic trains to the Bemal property for a railroad museum and said it was absolutely not
possible to use the Union Pacific rail lines. The historic trains can only use the Alameda
County Transportation Corridor.

Leslie Coonan, 3624 Canelli Court, supported Measure I and felt this was a
wonderful opportunity. She did not want to see 1,900 homes on the property and she did
not want 2,500 students in the existing high schools. If Measure I passes, she felt there
was a good oppommity for the City and School District to work together for another high
school.

Brian Arkin, 3740 Newton Way, supported Measure I and believed this property
was an asset for generations to come. He was disappointed at the Chamber response. He
referred to the comment about jobs/housing imbalance and related the information that
only 24% of the people who buy homes in Pleasanton work in Pleasanton. The
remainder commute regionally. He also thanked Council, staff, and community members
who have worked on this project. It is a wonderful opportunity and he urged a yes vote.

Deborah Kleffman, 3027 Briggs Court, also referred to the jobs/housing balance.
She supported Hacienda Business Park and felt it was a good addition to the City.
