It was moved by Mayor Tarver, seconded by Ms Ayala, to adopt Resolution
No. 00-005, denying the appeal and approving the modified landscaping plan, as
recommended by staff.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Dennis, Michelotti and Mayor Tarver
NOES: None
ABSENT: Councilmember Pico
ABSTAIN: None

Item 6b
Cameron Avenue: On-street Parking, and CroSswalk at Martin Avenue (SR 00:023)

Bill van Gelder presented the staff report.

Ms. Dennis asked if there would be signage for the crosswalk.

Mr. van Gelder referred to the State standards regarding crosswalks near a school
and indicated the crosswalk would need to be yellow. There would be signage as to the
crosswalk as well as "no parking" signs near the crosswalk.

Mayor Tarver referred to the letter that was delivered to Council at the meeting
and asked Mr. van Gelder to respond to it.

Mr. van Gelder explained the crosswalk would be yellow because of State
standards for a crosswalk within a certain number of feet from a school.

Mayor Tarver referred to crosswalks near Vintage Hills school that are not yellow
and have crossing guards.

Mr. van Gelder stated the rules change when there is a stop sign present; it is not
necessary to paint the crosswalk yellow or install the additional signs.

Ms. Michelotti asked what the most objectionable pan of this proposal: the
yellow crosswalks, or the signage or both.

Mr. van Gelder felt it was both, but possibly the signs are the worst.

Mayor Tarver invited public testimony.

Ted Reedy, 3645 Kamp Drive, indicated he walks his children to school every
day on Cameron Avenue and he supported the crosswalk even though it will probably
only be used for fifteen minutes in the morning and fifteen minutes in the afternoon. He
believed there was to be a second neighborhood meeting before the matter went to

Pleasanton City Council 7 01/18/00
Minutes
