Ms. Michelotti indicated she lives in a permit parking area and there is an
enforcement issue.

There was a break at 8:55 p.m.

The meeting reconvened at 9:07 p.m.

Item 6c
AOOroval of Plans and SOeci~cations and Authorization to call for Bids for
Pleasanton Snorts Park Pathway Lighting, Project No. 987063 (SR 00:014)

James W. Wolfe presented the staff report.

Ms. Ayala referred to a comment in the staff report about lights shining in a
resident's bedroom and living room windows and asked if that would happen.

Mike Fulford said no. The proposed lights are sharp, cut-off luminaires and that
should not happen. The light poles on the south side are only twelve feet tall and a good
distance from the closest homes. He also indicated a glare shield would be added on the
residential side.

Ms. Dennis indicated she came from the East and believed that lights were a
benefit to public safety

Tim Neal agreed and said that is the Police Department's position. When an area
is visible from the street, those persons with criminal intentions know there could be
witnesses and he agreed lighted places are safer. He said on the nights when there is
adult softball, small children tend to wander around the park. Many things have been
done to mitigate the concerns and the lights would help a lot.

Ms. Ayala asked if the proposed lights would help people using the meeting room
at the softball complex.

Mr. Wolfe said no, but it would help them going to their cars.

Ms. Michelotti asked when the lights go out at the softball complex.

Mr. Wolfe said at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Ms. Michelotti asked whether the low bollard lighting or higher lighting is better
from a safety aspect.

ChiefNeal said higher is better. Kids ride bikes and skateboards in the area and if
one fell off, it would be safer having a higher pole. He also said the higher lighting
would be less likely to be vandalized.

Pleasanton City Council 10 01 /18/00
Minutes
