He related the recent events leading to <br />this investigation and the need to head off public hysteria over this issue. San Francisco <br />hired world renowned radiation experts to test the area and found no health haTard. San <br />Francisco representatives and the experts were invited to the Thursday meeting to present <br />the evidence found and the conclusions reached. The experts are flying in from all over <br />the country at tremendous expense to present the report and to answer any questions <br />either in writing or asked at the meeting. He urged that the Thursday meeting continue to <br />go forward to get this information out to the public and for the Commission to decide <br />whether to reconsider the denial of the certification of the environmental impact report. <br />The question of the radionuclides was the only issue that caused denial of that <br />certification. <br /> <br /> Terry Edwards, 5793 Via Pemlta, representing the Youth Commission, also <br />complimented the Fire Department on the response to his recent house fire. He stated the <br />Youth Commission has been very active this year and indicated there was another article <br />in the Good Guys Gazette and presented a copy for the Council to review. He is looking <br />forward to another year of activities with this vibrant organization. He also stated a joint <br />meeting is planned with the Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon and Dublin Youth <br />Councils. It is hoped this will be a quarterly meeting to continue discussions about joint <br />activities. <br /> <br /> Pamela Hardy Alpert, 1847 Harms Drive, Chairperson of the Downtown Specific <br />Plan Committee, presented a status report of the Committee' s activities and indicated it is <br />in the information-gathering stage. She announced forthcoming town hall meetings to <br />solicit community input. The meetings are scheduled for Thursday. October 7, at 7:30 <br />p.m.. at the Senior Center: and on Wednesday, October 13. at 2:00 p.m.. also at the <br />Senior Center. If a person cannot attend either meeting. there are comment cards <br />available at the Planning Department or comments can be left at the City's website. She <br />indicated the recommendations are proposed to be presented at meetings next Spring for <br />further feedback. <br /> <br /> Mayor Tarver indicated he had watched one of the Committee meetings on <br />Channel 30 and appreciated the fact that they are being broadcast. He also encouraged <br />public participation in this process and thanked her for her work. <br /> <br />Ms. Ayala suggested handing out flyers at the First Wednesday event. <br /> <br /> Mayor Tarver commented that one of the Task Force members had resigned and <br />he did not intend to replace that member. <br /> <br /> Ms. Alpert agreed with that.
