MEMORANDUM
October 31, 1994
Page Two

Speaking of completion of the civic art project, the artist, William Granizo, is recovering
from cancer. He is working on our project and is approximately 60% complete. We are
hoping, but are not yet scheduling, completion and dedication by year-end (1994). I
trust that all of you have seen the engraved bricks that are now installed in the plaza
surrounding the monoliths.

We should also mention that the Centennial Time Capsule was stocked and buried on
October 23, 1994. It is adjacent to the east side of the brick plaza and next to the Alisal
Masonic Lodge Centennial cornerstone.

Upon completion of the art project, we will then make a decision regarding the creation
and installation of the 26 sidewalk vignettes depicting Pleasanton's history. We have a
reserve account to pay the entire projected cost of this project.

You have often heard me say that the Celebration had four goals:

Involve as many citizens as possible.
We had some 40 projects and 700-800 volunteers. Community spirit is
alive and well in Pleasanton. You have every right to be proud of
Pleasanton - its present, its future and its citizens.

Commemorate the Celebration.
a. The path and retaining wall along Del Valle Creek below Puerta
Tulancingo.
b. The footbridge along 1-680 Arroyo that crosses the Pleasanton
Canal.

The 1,667 bricks engraved with contributors' names in front of the
Historical Society Museum. This was not only a commemorative
project, but a very successful fund raiser for both the Convention
and Visitors Bureau and the Celebration.

The signature commemoration is, of course, the civic art project
that was chaired by Frank and Judy Brandes and Jack and Jan
Batcheller.

e. The sidewalk vignettes designed for the Main Street "bulb-outs".
