He also reviewed the report of the Director of Public Works regarding the
request of Mrs. Gremillion, 4062 Walnut Drive for the removal of a Modesto Ash
tree in the public right-of-way that is raising a section of the sidewalk and the
roots are surfacing the lawn area.
Mr. Campbell explained that the Modesto Ash is notorious for a prolific and
surface root system due primarily to improper watering when young. He also stated
that if it becomes policy to allow the removal of trees for the reasons promulgated
by Mrs. Gremillion, the City could lose several hundred trees and entire streets
could be denuded.
Councilman Rega stated he was opposed to Mrs. Gremillion's request for
policy reasons, and also he felt that root pruning and the repair of the
sidewalk would alleviate the problem and also save the tree.
Councilman Spiliotopoulos stated that he felt the chance of reoccurance of
surface roots and the repair of the sidewalk was creating an undue hardship on
Mrs. Gremillion.
After some discussion on this matter, it was moved by Councilman Spiliotopoulos
and seconded by Councilman Betaills that the City allow the removal of the tree in
the public right-of-way at 4062 Walnut Drive, replace the tree, and repair the
sidewalk.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Getton
NOES: Councilman Rega
ABSENT: Councilman Reid

Matters for the Information of the Coun~i~
Mr. Fales announced that the Mayors and Councilmens Legislative Institute is
going to be held April 14-16, 1969, at the E1 Dorado Hotel in Sacramento and urged
the Councilmens attendance at this Institute.

Mr. Fales reported that Alameda County has adopted Ordinance No. 69-11, requir-
ing an alternate member be appointed from the Pleasanton City Council to serve on
the Alameda County Library Advisory Commission.
It was moved by Councilman Rega and seconded by Councilman Spiliotopoulos that
Resolution No. 69-58, appointing Mayor Getton to serve as an alternate on the
Alameda County Library Advisory Commission, be adopted.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Gerton
NOES: None
ABSENT: Councilman Reid
