Reverend McKean stated that he had contacted developers regarding property for his
church site and the costs were entirely too extensive for his congregation. Rev.
McKean stated that he has an option on the property at 431Neal Street and this is
the only piece of property priced within the means of his congregation.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mason objected to the issuance of a use permit for the
construction of a church on the site because of the additional traffic it would
cause on Neal Street.
Mr. William Wieland objected to the noise from the services as his home is
only 50 feet away.
Other members in the audience, living close to this property, also objected
to the noise factor.
Several members in the audience spoke in favor of the church being located on
this property.
Mr. Fales read a letter from Reverend Vogt of the Presbyterian Church, which
included 21 signatures, and requested that the City Council give consideration of
a favorable vote for this church.
Mr. Fales also read a letter from Joseph J. Ales, a teacher in the Pleasanton
Elementary School District, urging the City Council to vote to allow the Use Per-
mit to the Pentecostal Church.
Mr. Fales read a petition signed by over 100 Roman Catholics in Pleasanton
who are in favor of the site on Neal Street for the Pentecostal Church. Mr. Fales
pointed out that some of the citizens who signed the petition live in the imme-
diate vicinity of the site for this church.
After a considerable number of remarks from the audience, both for and against
this issue, it was moved by Councilman Spiliotopoulos and seconded by Councilman
Rega that the Public Hearing be closed.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Getton
NOES: None
ABSENT: None

Councilman Beratlis stated that he was opposed to granting a use permit for a
church on 1.49 acres of land as there was no possible room for expansion of the
church·
In answer to Councilman Reid's question concerning traffic, Mr. Campbell stated
that Neal Street was already affected by the traffic from the Catholic Church and
the proposed church traffic would increase the already heavy flow on Sundays.
Mayor Getton suggested that Reverend McKean contact Mr. Craig who owned pro-
perty that was zoned for a church to see if negotiations with him might be favor-
able.
After considerable discussion, it was moved by Councilman Reid and seconded
by Mayor Gerton that this matter be referred to the Planning Commission in order
that the Commission may prepare a list on conditions placed upon the Pentecostal
Church in the event the City Council grants the appeal and that this appeal be
continued on March 3, 1969.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Gerton
NOES: None
ABSENT: None

Mayor Gerton recessed the meeting at 9:45 P.M.

Mayor Getton reconvened the meeting at 9:55 P.M.

MATTERS CONTINUED FOR DECISION
There were no matters to be continued for decision.

SPECIAL REPORTS
Deport of fhe Mayor Re: Request of Honorable John Reading, Mayor of OaklaBd, to
Proclaim an Oakland Seals Day
Mayor Getton explained Mayor Reading's request and asked the Councilmen to
select a day to proclaim an Oakland Seals Day.
It was moved by Councilman Rega and seconded by Councilman Beratlis that
Resolution No. 69-25, Proclaiming March 16, 1969, as Oakland Seals Day, be adopted.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Getton
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
