Considerable discussion on land use for the subject area ensued. Councilman Reid suggested that this matter be continued until after the meeting of the Plan- ning Commission on August 4, 1969. Mr. Getton stated he would rather have the City Council reject his application than wait until after that date. Mr. Getton also stated that he had a proposal which would demolish the old buildings and construct new ones. Mr. Getton stressed the need of Commercial-Service zoning in this area. After further discussion, it was moved by Councilman Beratlis and seconded by Councilman Rega that Ordinance No. 561, amending Ordinance No. 520, rezoning that property located on the west side of Santa Rita Road approximately 237 feet north of the Arroyo del Valle, known as 915 Santa Rita Road and containing approximately .63 acres, from the Commercial-Freeway District to the Commercial-Service District, be introduced. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid and Vice-Mayor Spiliotopoulos NOES: None ABSENT: Mayor Gerton Mayor Getton returned to the Council table and Vice-Mayor Spiliotopoulos turned the gavel back to Mayor Getton. ~vATTERS CONTINUED FOR DECISION There were no matters to be continued for decision. SPECIAL REPORTS Discussion with Mr. H. Crowle~ Alameda Count7 Director of Public Works..~ Re: Activities of Bay Conservation and Development Commission Mr. Herb Crowle explained the activities of the Bay Conservation and Develop- ment Commission. Mr. Crowle stated that the controversy in the Legislature and among many local government officials is whether BCDC needs, or should have, any control over future development of the shoreline around San Francisco Bay. Mr. Crowle also outlined BCDC's Bay Plan proposals which included, (1) that this Commission have authority to see that the limited supply of available shore land is used for high-priority purposes, (2) that the local governments continue to designate the use of the shores in their own interests providing some public access to the shores is allowed and (3) that BCDC encourage the long term continua- tion of salt production by such means as appropriate tax treatment and protection of the working pond system from indiscriminate encroachment by unnecessary public takings. After some discussion, it was moved by Councilman Reid and seconded by Council- man Rega that Resolution No. 69-162, recommending extension of the Bay Conserva- tion and Development Commission in order to protect and enforce the BCDC plan, be adopted. Discussion with Representatives from Greyhound Bus Co., Re: Future location of Bus Terminal Mr. R. E. LaDuke, representing the Greyhound Bus Company, stated that Mr. Chrtstionsen, Greyhound Bus Agent in Pleasanton, had advised him that it is not economically feasible to continue the agency and will terminate this service in approximately ninety days. Mr. LaDuke also stated that if an agent cannot be found by September 1, 1969, there will be no baggage or express service in Pleasanton, however, the busses will still route through Pleasanton to pick up and discharge customers. Mr. LaDuke advised the Council that in this event, space for loading passengers and a bulletin board for posting the bus schedules will h~ve to be provided by the City. Mr. LaDuke stated that he would appreciate the C~.ty Council doing all within their power to locate an agent for this facility and the Councilmen assured him that they would do this. Mayor Getton declared a recess at 10:O5 P.M. Mayor Gerton reconvened the meeting at 10:15 P.M.
