Considerable discussion on land use for the subject area ensued. Councilman <br />Reid suggested that this matter be continued until after the meeting of the Plan- <br />ning Commission on August 4, 1969. Mr. Getton stated he would rather have the <br />City Council reject his application than wait until after that date. Mr. Getton <br />also stated that he had a proposal which would demolish the old buildings and <br />construct new ones. Mr. Getton stressed the need of Commercial-Service zoning <br />in this area. <br /> After further discussion, it was moved by Councilman Beratlis and seconded by <br />Councilman Rega that Ordinance No. 561, amending Ordinance No. 520, rezoning that <br />property located on the west side of Santa Rita Road approximately 237 feet north <br />of the Arroyo del Valle, known as 915 Santa Rita Road and containing approximately <br />.63 acres, from the Commercial-Freeway District to the Commercial-Service District, <br />be introduced. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid and Vice-Mayor Spiliotopoulos <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Mayor Gerton <br /> <br /> Mayor Getton returned to the Council table and Vice-Mayor Spiliotopoulos turned <br />the gavel back to Mayor Getton. <br /> <br />~vATTERS CONTINUED FOR DECISION <br /> There were no matters to be continued for decision. <br /> <br />SPECIAL REPORTS <br />Discussion with Mr. H. Crowle~ Alameda Count7 Director of Public Works..~ Re: <br />Activities of Bay Conservation and Development Commission <br /> Mr. Herb Crowle explained the activities of the Bay Conservation and Develop- <br />ment Commission. Mr. Crowle stated that the controversy in the Legislature and <br />among many local government officials is whether BCDC needs, or should have, any <br />control over future development of the shoreline around San Francisco Bay. Mr. <br />Crowle also outlined BCDC's Bay Plan proposals which included, (1) that this <br />Commission have authority to see that the limited supply of available shore land <br />is used for high-priority purposes, (2) that the local governments continue to <br />designate the use of the shores in their own interests providing some public <br />access to the shores is allowed and (3) that BCDC encourage the long term continua- <br />tion of salt production by such means as appropriate tax treatment and protection <br />of the working pond system from indiscriminate encroachment by unnecessary public <br />takings. <br /> After some discussion, it was moved by Councilman Reid and seconded by Council- <br />man Rega that Resolution No. 69-162, recommending extension of the Bay Conserva- <br />tion and Development Commission in order to protect and enforce the BCDC plan, be <br />adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Getton <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br /> Mayor Gerton thanked Mr. Crowle for his presentation. <br /> <br />Discussion with Representatives from Greyhound Bus Co., Re: Future location of Bus <br />Terminal <br /> Mr. R. E. LaDuke, representing the Greyhound Bus Company, stated that Mr. <br />Chrtstionsen, Greyhound Bus Agent in Pleasanton, had advised him that it is not <br />economically feasible to continue the agency and will terminate this service in <br />approximately ninety days. Mr. LaDuke also stated that if an agent cannot be <br />found by September 1, 1969, there will be no baggage or express service in <br />Pleasanton, however, the busses will still route through Pleasanton to pick up <br />and discharge customers. Mr. LaDuke advised the Council that in this event, space <br />for loading passengers and a bulletin board for posting the bus schedules will h~ve <br />to be provided by the City. Mr. LaDuke stated that he would appreciate the C~.ty <br />Council doing all within their power to locate an agent for this facility and the <br />Councilmen assured him that they would do this. <br /> <br />Mayor Getton declared a recess at 10:O5 P.M. <br /> <br />Mayor Gerton reconvened the meeting at 10:15 P.M. <br /> <br /> <br />
