4i51 <br /> <br /> It was moved by Councilman Beratlis and seconded by Councilman Rega that <br /> Resolution No. 70-7, adopting the following policy regarding the use of the Main <br /> Street sign structure: <br /> <br />1. The construction of all signs and decorations shall be approved by the Public <br /> Works Department prior to installation. Signs shall meet the following general <br /> specifications: <br /> a. Material shall be heavy canvass or similar material with the edges treated <br /> to prevent significant ravelling. <br /> b. Grommets shall be installed securely along the top edge at approximate two <br /> foot spacing with ropes or clasps provided to allow easy and secure attach- <br /> ment of the sign to the underside of the existing structure. <br /> c. Grommets shall be installed in the bottom corners and sufficient rope <br /> shall be provided to tie the sign down. <br /> d. Sufficient wind-holes shall be provided to prevent undue billowing or <br /> stress on the sign or its fastenings. <br /> e. The message on the sign shall be kept short and easily readable. Letter- <br /> ing shall be neat and generally unaffected by moisture. <br /> <br />2. Signs will be installed and removed by the Fire Department and will be limited <br /> to a maximum of one week except those relating to the Alameda County Fair or <br /> to Christmas. <br /> <br />3. Only the following classes of signs will be allowed: <br /> a. Signs advertising local elections as such. This will include the City of <br /> Pleasanton, Amador High School District, Pleasanton Elementary School Dis- <br /> trict, Murray School District, P.T.C.W.D., and Zone 7. <br /> b. Signs proclaiming national days or weeks which relate to civic affairs and <br /> are of local interest as determined by the City Council. This will in- <br /> clude such events as Fire Prevention Week, Law Enforcement Week, and Public <br /> Schools Week. Other such events must be approved by the City Council. <br /> c. Signs and decorations used in conjunction with the Alameda County Fair. <br /> d. Signs and decorations used to commemorate any legally proclaimed National <br /> or State holiday such as Christmas or Thanksgiving. <br /> e. Signs advertising specific City related functions including Fireman's Ball <br /> or Policeman's Ball. Other such events must be approved by the City Council <br /> f. Special events approved by the City Council. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Betatits, Rega, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Getton <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />Matters for the Information of the Council <br />Mr. Fales stated that copies of the 1970-71 Budget Calendar has been forwarded <br />to the City Council. <br /> <br /> Mr. Fales also stated that copies of a chart showing the number of housing units <br />that were finaled each month during 1969, has been forwarded to the Council as an <br />informational item. <br /> <br />REPORTS OF THE CITY ATTORNEY <br /> There were no reports from the City Attorney. <br /> <br />COMMUNICATIONS <br />From Mrs. Elizabeth Hall.~. Chairm~n~_pleasanton Housing Authority Re: Term of Mr. <br />~e~Fy Cook <br /> Mr. Fales asked that this matter be referred to an Executive Session. <br /> <br />MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br /> Councilman Spiliotopoulos stated that he had observed a fire truck entering <br />Main Street from Division Street and noted a dangerous traffic situation. Mr. <br />Campbell stated that he would review this matter. <br /> <br /> Councilman Spiliotopoulos requested that the matter of an elected mayor be <br />put back on the agenda. <br /> <br /> Councilman Reid asked the staff to contact the owners of the Pleasanton Hotel <br />and ask them to replace the worn flag on their building. <br /> <br /> <br />
