From the East Bay Trails Council regarding A.B. 925. <br /> <br /> Mr. Fales read the above communication, dated April 15, 1971, <br /> from Mr. Gary Tats, president of the East Bay Trails Council, <br /> which requested the City's support of the East Bay Regional <br /> Park District tax increase bill, A.B. 925 <br /> <br /> Mayor Reid asked that this matter be postponed for one week <br /> in order to allow the Council time to review this bill in <br /> detail. <br /> <br /> b. From Attorney General regarding Legislative Proposals <br /> <br /> Mr. Pales read this correspondence, dated April 1, 1971, from <br /> Evelle J. Younger, Attorney General, State Department of <br /> Justice, in which were enclosed a number of legislative ..pro- <br /> posals in the fields of criminal Justice, environmental cont- <br /> rol, consumer protection, and the rights and obligations of <br /> 18-year olds. In his letter, Mr. Younger urged the City <br /> Council to support these bills <br /> <br /> Mayor Reid asked that this matter be continued in order to <br /> allow Mr. Hirst to study these bills and present his recom- <br /> mendations to the Council. <br /> <br /> c. Prom Mr. Bob Piperr p!..easanton Little League~ .regarding. <br /> P'leas'~hton PLAYS <br /> <br /> Mr. Pales read a letter, dated April 28, 1971, from Mr. Bob <br /> Piper, Treasurer of the Pleasanton American Little League, <br /> in which he cited Mr. Dick Yackley as being the largest <br /> single contributor to providing a Little League ball park. <br /> In his letter, Mr. Piper stated that over 700 boys are play- <br /> ing ball at the new 105 acre park site recently acquired from <br /> G. S. A. , and this is creating a traffic problem as the only <br /> entrance to the park is on Hopyard Road. Mr. Piper asked <br /> assistance~ from the City in establishing access from several <br /> areas in order to eliminate the boys having to travel along <br /> major thoroughfares. Mr. Piper also stated that Pleasanton <br /> PLAYS is now involved in a campaign to acquire funds for the <br /> support of all youth sports in Pleasanton. <br /> <br /> Mr. Campbell stated that something can be done regarding in- <br /> gress and egress to the park. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> <br />There Were no City Council Committee reports. <br /> <br />MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL EMBERS <br /> <br />Councilman Beratlis asked Councilman Pearson if he was quoted corr- <br />ectly in the news papers concerning his remark that Planning Comm- <br />issioners Peteira and }Xirst should resign their positions because <br />they have taken employment with development companies, which would <br />constitute a possible conflict of interest. <br /> <br />Councilman Pearson affirmed his remark and Councilman Beratlis then <br />asked him of he was of the same opinion regarding anyone associated <br />with real estate being on a public body. <br /> <br />Councilman Pearson replied by quoting from a book on environmental <br />quality which stated that a close relationship between land devel- <br />opment people and members of zoning boards can do great harm. <br /> <br /> 5. 5-3-71 <br /> <br /> <br />
