Mayor Reid declared the public hearing open. Mr. Aiello displayed a map of the area and then reviewed his report, dated December 1, 1970. In his report, Mr. Aiello noted that this amendment reduced the Townhouse units from 159 to 112, added tot lots and a cabana complex, and eliminated one of the swimming pools. Mr. Aiello reported that the Planning Commission felt that this amendment was a vast improvement over the applicant's previous submittals and adopted Resolution No. 1049, dated November 24, 1970, recommending approval by the City Council. Mr. George Oakes, representing the First Pleasanton Investors, pointed out that there was considerably more open space in this PUD and also that it was oriented toward both younger and older people. Mr. Oakes also explained the association membership which would include outside building and grounds maintenance. The-re being no oral or written public protest, it was moved by Council- man Spiliotopoulos and seconded by Councilman Beratlis that the public hearing be closed. Considerable discussion ensued at Council level. It was moved by Councilman Gerton and seconded by Councilman Beratlis that Resolution No. 71-7, approving an amendment to the existing Planned Unit Development Application No. 69-8 of First Pleasanton Investors and including a variance in the approved preliminary site plan for a Townhouse complex under the RM-2500 District, be adopted.
