CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> <br /> There were no other items listed on the Consent Calendar. <br /> <br /> PUBLIC HEARINGS <br /> There were no public hearings scheduled for this meeting. <br /> <br /> MATTERS CONTINUED FOR DECISION <br /> <br /> Further Discussion Re: Role of ABAG in the RegiOn. <br /> <br />Mr. Edgar reviewed the background information related to the recent <br />decision of the Executive Committee of ABAG regarding A.B.1057. <br /> <br />Mayor Reid initiated discussion on the role of ABAG and stated that <br />he still felt that the Executive Committee of ABAG was in violation <br />of ABAG policy. <br /> <br />Lizette Weiss, Staff Assistant of ABAG, reported on the action of <br />the Executive Committee. <br /> <br />After considerable discussion, it was moved by Councilman Gerton <br />and seconded by Councilman Beratlis that Resolution No. 71-155, <br />adopted on July 26, 1971, be reaffirmed. <br /> <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Gerton, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Reid <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br />ABSTAINED: Councilman Pearson <br /> <br />Discussion Re: Pleasanton Animal Control PrOgram <br /> <br />Mr. William'Hildebrandt, Alameda County Animal Control Officer, <br />reported on the lack of funds and personnel to provide an adequate <br />animal control program in the county. He stated that a new animal <br />shelter has been located in Oakland for Newark and the Washington <br />Township which would leave the Santa Rita Center for just Pleasanton <br />and Livermore areas. Mr. Hi!debrandt further stated that his depart- <br />ment was also responsible for trapping skunks and other wild <br />animals that could possibly be rabid. He also complained that the <br />county did not have sufficient funds to purchase traps. Discussion <br />on the control of cats, ensued. <br /> <br />Councilman Pearson instructed Mr. Hirst to draft an ordinance on <br />the licensing of cats. <br /> <br />After considerable discussion on the entire animal control program, <br />it was moved by Councilman Gerton and seconded by Councilman Pearson <br />that the staff be authorized to provide the Alameda County Animal <br />Control Department with funds to purchase 10 traps for the exclusive <br />use of trapping animals in the Pleasanton area. <br /> <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Gerton, Pearson, Spiliotopoulos and <br />NOES: None Mayor Reid <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />Additional Dump Site <br /> <br />Mr. Edgar asked the Council to consider taking action on additional <br />dump sites in the valley in order to appeal the proposed Laughlin <br />Site on Croak Road at next Thursday's hearing by the County Board <br />of Supervisors. <br /> <br /> 2. 8-2-71 <br /> <br /> <br />
