He ~elt the need for this ~ype of low-moderate income housing was vital to the community, and was supported by members o~ the Presbyterian Church, and urged favorable considera- tion by the Council in regard to ~educed City fees° Mr. Bill Amis spoke on behal~ of the need of this type of low-moderate in- come housing, citing a number of applications already had been received to rent in this p~oject~ from all di~'ferent age and social income people. He further sta~ed thai Plessan,~on Gardens had a waiting list, so the need for this type o~ housing was greatly desired. Mr~ Am~s presented a petition to the City Council to roll back Pleasanton Greens' fees from $220,000!00 to the June, 1972, level of $104,000.00 (forgive the "bedroom tax", "Park fees", and "sewer surcharge") and make possible these 131 <:hu~ch-sponsored homes for our young people, elderly, and economically disadvan~aged~ The petition had 201 signatures attached. Mrs~ Ingrid iverson, Worker at the Pleasanton Gardens, spoke regarding the need of housing ~oE the elderly as well as social related activities, and stated ~ha~L Pleasantcn Greens would be this kind of project. Miss Bonnie ~uller, ~epresenting the Youth of the community, spoke regard- Ing zhe needed social hall with this project as a place that could be utilized by teensgets, as well as others, as a gathering place for various activities. She stated many of her teachers were unable to live in Pleasanton because they could no~ a£~ord the high cost of rent, and she felt this project was impor- Mro Jerry Ha~.~ond, oi ~he Lustrat Company, stated the purpose of the Federal 236 F~cgram was to fill the growing gap of middle income housing, and in order Lo keep rents dc~m ~he project costs have to be kept at a minimum so that it ~!a~ serve the middie-marker sector° He added the amenities could be reduced ~,~ e~Limin~ted tc c~t down on costs but the project needs those amenities and ~ remove ~:hem would be detrimental or disastrous° Mayo~ Reild recessed the meeting at 9:20 P.M.
