Mro Dave Ames, 2539 Willowfen Way, spoke regarding the use of teanagars for Park
<br />maintenance, stating ~ha= it was difficult for young people to find jobs and urged
<br />Council support of this work program.

<br /> Mr~ John Hemphill, 4508 Eull Court, addressed the Council regarding the hiring
<br />of teenagers for Park maintenance, sta~ing it would help clean up the City, make a
<br />better place to live, and occupy the kids time.
<br />
<br /> Mrs. Linnea Norton, 7612 Driftwood Way, spoke regarding the need for bike paths,
<br />stating this is a program that can be used by all ages and sexes.
<br />
<br /> Mr~ Charles Gielow, 7761 Applewood Way, spoke on behalf of the Parks and Recrea-
<br />tion Commission, giving reasons why they supported the priority of completing the
<br />Youth Sports Park and Century Park, as needed facilities for sports activities° He
<br />stated that bike trails were premature at this time because the street system needed
<br />to be more complete and final, and the Cultural Arts Program would be an on-going
<br />one, therefore, the Parks and Recreation Commission urged that completion of the
<br />Youth Sports Park be given first priority.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Nino Pompilio, 2651 Starling Court, stated there were eight associations
<br />of sports activities in operation in the City of Pleasanton, covering various sports
<br />and ages of participants, and advocated completion of Phases I and II of the Youth
<br />Sports Park because of needed playing fields.
<br />
<br /> Mr. R. A. Connolly, 306 Neal Street, spoke on behalf of Babe Ruth and Pleasan-
<br />ton 3unior Football League, stating that additional fields were necessary or they
<br />would have to turn down boys who wished to participate in these sports. He urged
<br />allocation of funds for completion of the Youth Sports Park, stating that an ade-
<br />quate youth program served to build a better community.
<br />
<br /> Mro Jack Healey, 5032 Woodthrush Road, spoke on behalf of the American Little
<br />League, requesting the Council to use the money where it is the most valid, namely,
<br />the completion of the Youth Sports Park~

<br /> Mr. Gilbert Eo Maines, 6543 Paseo Santa Cruz, spoke regarding Revenue Sharing
<br />money, requesting that a portion of it be allocated to the Cultural Arts Program.
<br />He stated there was a great need for activities other than sports, and this pro-
<br />gram involved many high school and college people. He further stated this Program
<br />is recognized for college credit, and at some point in time it would be self-
<br />supporting.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Doug Amis, 4137 Silver, Program Director for the Institute of Theater
<br />Studies, spoke on behaif of the Cultural Arts Program and presented a budget to
<br />the City Council, requesting that these additional programs be supported.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Jerry D. Murphy, 3594 Dickens Court, stated that while he was not against
<br />the completion of the Youth Sports Park, he felt the Park maintenance program
<br />should have first priority as the taxpayers deserve a neat City.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Ronald Clamants, 4379 Barbara Court, spoke in favor of completion of the
<br />Youth Sports Park~ He cited the hours of volunteer assistance from citizens of
<br />the community to develop the Park and pledged their continued support in com-
<br />pleting this complex as soon as possible.
<br />
<br /> Mrs. Helen Robinson, 1312 Vintner Way, commended the dedication of the people
<br />to sports, and stated her concern regarding the traffic problem at the Youth
<br />Sports Park° She also supported the Cultural Arts Program. She asked if the
<br />widening of Hopyard Road would include a bike path, and if a signal would be
<br />placed in that vicinity.
<br />
<br /> Mayor Pearson expressed his concern regarding the needed maintenance program
<br />of the City, and supports the hiring of teenagers to do the work. He also stated
<br />support of the Cultural Arts Program and bicycle paths on Foothill Road. He
<br />suggested a joint meeting with the Parks and Recreation Commission in regard to
<br />the Youth Sports Park, and stated the need for a firm list of priorities.
