Committee~ R.e: Portable School Cross~i~ns <br /> Mr. Campbell presented the report regarding this matter, and recommended <br />removal of the p~?r~able signs on Valley at Northway and Black a~ Harvest, for <br />the following reasons: <br /> 1. SaI~Z - ~he signs have been hit a total of 17 times since installed. <br /> 2, Liabili~Z - as use of signs in the roadway is spec~.fically ruled out <br /> in both ~he Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and ~he State <br /> Highway Traffic Manual, and as these sections have been pointed out <br /> it is possible that our liability in case of an accident might be <br /> increased: <br /> <br /> Mayor Reid ~ommented he would be opposed to removal oi the signs unless some <br />better means or' more efficient means is proposed in lieu of the signs~ - <br /> <br /> Mr. Campbell stated that according to the best information available from <br />experts in this field, we have done everything that is warranted at bo5h loca- <br />tions to provide maximum safety, such as marked crosswalks, advance warning <br />signs, radar ro control speeding, etc. <br /> <br /> It was m~>ved by Councilman Kinney, and seconded by Councilman Herlihy, that <br />the ~ecommenda~t~ns of the Traffic Safety Committee to remove ~he portable school <br />crossing signs on Valley at Northway and on Black at Harvest, be approved. <br />The roll ca]] vo~e was as follows: <br />AYES: Coun{~ilmen Herlihy, Kinney, Mori, Pearson, and Mayor Reid <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />REPORTS OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br /> There were no reports of Boards and Commissions presented at this meeting. <br /> <br />REPORTS OF THE CI~TY MANAGER <br />Re oft Re: CitZ Lease of Soil Conversation Center Buildings for use as an Art <br />Center and an alternative thereto <br /> Mr. Edgar presented the staff report regarding this matter, stating these <br />buildings can be leased to the City at an annual cost of $6,00000~ He further <br />stated the staff has recently been made aware of existence of ten portable <br />buildings located on the Donlon School site currently being offered for sale <br />at a cost el $300~00 each, and recommended approval of the p~chase of these <br />buildings, ~ive ~o be located on Amador Park as an Art Center, and five to be <br />used to provide much needed space at the City's Sunol Corpora[ion Yard for <br />additional f~cilitiesl~ <br /> <br /> Mr~ Campbell s~a[ed he had inspected these buildings and found them to be <br />structurely sound~ <br /> <br /> Mrl, Pal[on compared the costs, and explained the advantages of ~he portable <br />buildings on the Amador Park° <br /> <br /> 4. 3/26/73 <br /> <br /> <br />
