PUBLIC HEARINGS <br /> There were no public hearing scheduled £or this meeting~ <br /> <br />MATTERS CONTINUED FOR DECISION <br />Request by Murray School District to annex certain property. West of Foothill Road <br />to the.City for the developm.~nt of...a' SchOOl site <br /> Mr. Edgar presented the staff report regarding this item stating that the matter <br />had been discussed at a study session between the City Council and Murray School <br />District Board of Trustees on September 17, 1973. <br /> <br /> Councilman Reid asked if the overpass ramp for pedestrian. crossing was a part of <br />the project and who pays for It. Dr~l Willjams seated he could not answer that, the <br />School District would file. an application with the State but they did not very often <br />pay for this kind of crossing. <br /> <br /> Mr. J. J. Comerford, 7886 Oakcreek Drive, stated that the residents in the area <br />were concerned about the safety factor of the children, as evidenced by the petitions <br />circulated at two different ~imes~ <br /> <br /> Mr. Ted Bogardus, 4491 Sandalwood Drive, addressed the Council stating that a <br />school on Foothill Road would be a detriment to the environment, that school children <br />would probably ignore safety fences and cross on busy Foothill Road, and that a more <br />suitable location should be selected by the City Council, Murray School District and <br />the developer. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Sharon Turner, 3838 Yosemite Court North, representing Donlot Parent- <br />Faculty Club Board, read a statement from that Board as follows: "The Donlot <br />Parent-Faculty Club, which represents the parents of Donlon's 1200 students, <br />supports the Murray School District Board cf Trustees in the site selection on <br />Foothill Road for the construction of a new intermediate school. The Donlon <br />Parent-Faculty Club further wishes the school district to proceed as soon as <br />possible with the construction of the school on the Foothill site. This resolu- <br />tion was passed by unanimous vote at the Donlot Parent-Faculty Club Board meeting <br />held at Donion School on Tuesday, September 25, 1973~" <br /> <br /> Mrs. Turner also presented the City Council with a petition, signed by 148 <br />residents in the area, which reads as follows: "We the undersigned parents of <br /> , <br />students at Donlon School, wish to express our deep concern at the possible delay <br />in the construction of a new intermediate school at the Foothill Road site selected <br />by the Murray School District Board of Trustees. Our intermediate school students <br />have a great need for the facilities to be offered at the new school on the Foot- <br />hill site. We support the concern of the Board of Trustees that further delay will <br />deny yet another class of students the use of these facilities°" <br /> <br /> Mrs. Turner stated the residents strongly feel that Murray School District mok <br />a responsible stand, and urged the City Council to support it. <br /> <br /> Mr. Pike Peel, 7898 Oakcreek Drive, expressed his opposition to annexation of <br />this property for proposed school site because of the safety factor for children <br />having to cross Foothill Road and in light of the City Council's recently adopted <br />growth restriction policy regarding annexation. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Nancy O'Connell, 7647 Driftwood, former teacher in Palo Alto, expressed <br />concern regarding the dangerous proposed location of the school and read an <br />article which she had written to a local newspaper regarding the disadvantages <br />of an overcrossing for school children~ <br /> <br /> Mrs. Margaret Tracy, 1262 Madison, Livermore, stated she felt a school should <br />not be located on an earthquake fault and studies revealed there were two faults <br />in the area of the proposed location. She also stated that annexation of the <br />property would probably bring pressure of development of the adjacent hill pro- <br />perty. <br /> <br /> Dr. Don Williams, Murray School District, stated that after considerable <br />study and discussion, the proposed school site was felt to be the best site for <br />an intermediate school~ <br /> <br /> 2. 10/1/73 <br /> <br /> <br />
