"1. A barricade at each end of all walkways to prevent a recurrence <br /> of the recent tragic accident that happened on August 25, 1973, <br /> at the Crestline Way and Northway Road walkway. <br /> <br /> "2. Sufficient lighting of the walkways. <br /> <br /> "3. Proper (and routine) maintenance including pruning, weeding, <br /> watering, cleaning up debris and, in some walkways, eliminating <br /> the mud~ <br /> <br /> "4°One solution for cleaning up the walkways would be to blacktop <br /> or cement the entire surface~" <br /> <br />Mrs~ Hawkins urged immediate action, and stated she was satisfied with the recommen- <br />dations as suggested in the report of the Assistant City Manager. <br /> <br /> Mro J. W. Bethel, 2406 Crestline Road, urged that positive action be taken as <br />soon as possible regarding this matter~ <br /> <br /> Mr. Campbell stated that the materials for the barriers has to be ordered and, <br />therefore, it will take a little time to get these improvements completed, however, <br />they will be done as soon as is physically possible. <br /> <br />MATTERS CONTINUED FOR DECISION (Contd.) <br />Application of the Planning Commission to amend Section 2-9.40,.. Article 18, Chapter <br />2~ Title II of the Ordinance Code of the City of Pleasanton to require tempo.rary. <br />signs concerning evegts of aR emer.~..ency~ p~tr~p.tiq~ religious or civic nature to be <br />removed within seven (7) days of the event to which they pertains and to prohibit <br />the posting of political signs on public property <br /> Mr. Edgar stated this item was continued from the meeting of August 27, 1973, <br />at which time the public hearing was declared open. He presented the staff report, <br />stating this amendment is proposed in order to exercise more control over the dis- <br />play of signs and banners relating to elections or events of a civic, community, <br />patriotic, religious or emergency nature, requiring that all signs must be removed <br />within seven days as opposed to the present allowable time of fifteen days° <br /> <br /> Mr. Scheidig stated there needed to be a definition of "political signs", and <br />recommended this item be referred back to the Planning Commission for inclusion <br />and review of "political sign" definition. <br /> <br /> It was moved by Councilman Reid, and seconded by Councilman Mori, to table and <br />refer back co the Planning Commission the application of the Planning Commission to <br />amend Section 2-9.40, Article 18, Chapter 2, Title II of the Ordinance Code of the <br />City of Pleasanton to require temporary signs concerning events of an emergency, <br />patriotic, religious or civic nature to be removed within seven (7) days of the <br />event to which they pertain, and to prohibit the posting of political signs on <br />public property, for inclusion of a definition of "political signs". <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Herlihy, Kinney, Mori, Reid, and Mayor Pearson <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />Application of the Planning Commission to amend Section 2-5.41~ Chapter 2s Title II <br />of the Ordinance Code of the City of Pleasanton relating to structural projections <br />into the side yards <br /> It was moved by Councilman Mori, and seconded by Councilman Kinney, to consider <br />this item again tonight because of Councilman Mori's absence earlier and the 2-2 <br />vote~ <br /> <br /> Mayor Pearson declared the public hearing re-opened. <br /> <br /> Mr~ Harris presented the staff report° <br /> <br /> Councilman Reid reiterated his concern regarding the encroachment to within 5' <br />of rear and side yards and the need for retention of open space. He stated he <br />would like to see this item referred back to the Planning Commission for further <br />study. <br /> <br /> 4. 9/12/73 <br /> <br /> <br />
