235 <br /> <br /> Jim Christie offered the services of his trainees in traffic control procedures <br />for on-the-job training at this intersection at no cost to the City° <br /> <br /> Mr. James L. Thomas, 3559 Glacier Court, stated it was the responsibility of the <br />City to provide necessary equipment to make this intersection safe for those using <br />the Little League Park. He suggested a pedestrian overpass, safety islands, uni- <br />formed police officer to control traffic, and the ultimate solution of a traffic <br />light. <br /> <br /> Mr. Edgar read a le~teI from Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Austill, 2320 Crestline <br />Road, regarding speedy completion of the realignment of Hopyard Road. <br /> <br /> After discussion regarding speed limits, it was moved by Councilman Kinney, and <br />seconded by Mayor Pearson, that Ordinance Noo 721, to be read by title only and <br />waiving further reading thereof, reducing speed limits on Hopyard Road as follows: <br /> Highway 580 to Stoneridge Drive, from 55 mph to 45 mph <br /> Stoneridge Drive to North Valley Trails, from 45 mph to 35 mph <br /> be introduced. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Herlihy, Kinney, and Mayor Pearson <br />NOES: Councilman Mori <br />ABSENT: Councilman Reid <br /> <br /> Councilman Mori stated he felt this matter needed more examination into the <br />total effect of speed reductions by our traffic specialists. <br /> <br /> Mayor Pearson stated some action should be determined as to the safety at the <br />intersection of the Little League Park. <br /> <br /> Council instructed staff to investigate the possibility of using the National <br />Guard M.P.'s. <br /> <br /> After discussion, the City Council took action denying a flashing light at the <br />intersection of Hopyard Road and Valley Trails South, and authorized the staff to <br />look into the feasibility of using a uniformed police officer to direct traffic <br />during Little League games, and report on left turn acceleration lanes from Valley <br />Trails and Val Vista onto Hopyard Road~ <br /> <br /> Mayor Pearson recessed the meeting at 9:55 P.M. <br /> <br /> Mayor Pearson reconvened the meeting at 10:00 P.M. <br /> <br /> Mayor Pearson read the petition presented by the residents of the Hopyard Road <br />area. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Ann Cowart expressed her concern regarding safety of children crossing <br />Hopyard to Little League Park and urged Council consideration of this matter for <br />immediate solutions~ <br /> <br />SPECIAL REPORTS <br />Selection of Transportation Corridor for BART Extension <br /> Mr. Edgar stated the City Council needs to make a decision regarding preference <br />of Corridor to be used for BART Extension to the Valley° He recommended the Dublin <br />Corridor because service to Pleasanton residents would be better, extension through <br />the Dublin Corridor would be less expensive, and extension through the Dublin Corri- <br />dor would have less of an adverse environmental impact than the alternate through <br />San Ramon Corridor° <br /> <br /> It was moved by Councilman Mori, and seconded by Councilman Herlihy, that <br />Resolution No. 74-22, strongly supporting the Dublin Corridor for the extension <br />to the BART System from the Livermore-Amador Valley, be adopted° <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Herlihy, Kinney, Mori, and Mayor Pearson <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilman Reid <br /> <br /> 3. 2/11/74 <br /> <br /> <br />
