After discussion, staff was
instructed to respond to the Board of Supervisors and County Administrator rela-
tive to more precise location and zoning of compatible land uses in the area and
any other pertinent information, and to thank the County for its candidness in
advising Pleasanton of what uses would occur in the facility.

~TTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL MEMBERS
Councilmember Herlihy expressed concern regarding the number of recent acci-
dents on Stanley Boulevard and asked for a cost estimate to install guard rails.
Mr. Brown stated that for 2900 feet of guard rail the cost would be $35,000.00,
and for 4400 feet the cost would be $50,000.00. Council discussed other alterna-
tives for added traffic safety. The City Attorney advised Council against any
action by City on Road since it was not a City Road. Since this is a County
Road Council directed the City Manager to communicate Council's concerns and
proposals for solution to safety on Stanley Boulevard for County consideration.

Councilmember Mercer expressed concern regarding speeding in the City, and
requested staff to discuss this matter with the Police Department to more
effectively address this problem.

Councilmember Mercer requested permission to work with the Chamber of Commerce
to edit a brochure on the City listing businesses, etc., in an effort to keep re-
tail shopping In the area and to attract additional businesses. Councilmembers
LeClaire and Herlihy did not feel that the City should participate financially in
this program. After discussion, Councilmembers stated they were not opposed to
Councilmember Mercer cooperating with the Chamber of Commerce, however, the
question of City financial participation could be considered again after the
brochure was completed and presented to City Council and no commitment to pro-
vide any public funds to this project was being tendered by looking at the
final product.

Councilmember Brandes requested staff to get information regarding possible
changes that are proposed to the Federal Prison Center.

10. 9/13/77
