33'3' <br /> <br /> MINUTES <br /> ---. of <br /> THE MEETING <br /> of <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br /> March 21, 1978 <br /> <br /> CALL TO ORDER - PLEDGE TO THE FLAG <br /> Mayor Kenneth Mercer called the Adjourned Regular Meeting of the City Council <br /> to order at 8:00 P.M., and then led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. <br /> <br /> ROLL CALL <br /> Deputy City Clerk Doris George called the roll which is recorded as follows: <br /> Councilmembers Brandes, Kephart, Wood, and Mayor Mercer were present. Mr. Brown, <br /> City Manager, Mr. Levine, City Attorney, and Mr. Campbell, Director of Public <br /> Works and Utilities, were present. <br /> <br /> AGENDAAMENDMENTS <br /> There were no agenda amendments presented at this meeting. <br /> <br /> CONSIDER PROCEDURES FOR FILLING VACANT COUNCIL POSITION <br /> Mayor Mercer stated that Council had received a copy of Councilmember Herlihy's <br /> resignation, effective March 17, 1978. He stated that Council had also received <br /> the Memorandum of the City Manager dated March 16, 1978, regarding options avail- <br /> able to Council to fill the vacancy. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer stated he would like to open this vacancy to any legally eligible <br /> resident of the City of Pleasanton who is interested in the position, and he <br /> presented a proposed selection process and time schedule. <br /> <br /> After discussion, it was moved by Councilmember Brandes, and seconded by <br /> Councilmember Wood, that the following selection process and time schedule be <br /> used for the appointment of a councilmember to fill the unexpired term of <br /> Councilmember lterlihy, said term to expire March, 1980: <br /> <br /> 1. Call for application from community March 22 <br /> Written applications should be hand delivered <br /> to the City Manager's Office and should include: <br /> - Resume <br /> - Statement of interest in vacancy <br /> - Marked Confidential if so desired <br /> <br /> 2. 'Close acceptance of applications March 29 <br /> 5:00 P.M. <br /> <br /> 3. Individual review of applications by City Council, <br /> each Councilmember to identify a maximum of six March 30- <br /> applicants for further consideration April 4 <br /> <br />--- 4. City Council meeting to consolidate list of applicants April 4 <br /> and set time for public interviews with City Council 8:00 P.M. <br /> <br /> <br />
