The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmen Butler, Kephart, Wood, and Mayor Mercer
NOES: Councilman Brandes
ABSENT: None

Councilmember Brandes stated he approved of the CETA Title VI proposal
ranking but was opposed to the concept of the entire CETA Program.

REPORTS OF THE CITY MANAGER
Recommendation to Return Chevrolet Rescue Modulance Vehicle to Count.y
(Continued from 8-29-78)
Mr. Hill presented his report dated August 8, 1978, regarding this matter.

Councilmember Wood stated he felt the Fire Department should retain the
rescue vehicle in order to provide this extra emergency service to the com-
munity.

Mrs. Fran Wall, 525 Junipero, strongly urged Council to consider keeping
the rescue vehicle in Pleasanton. She presented a petition with 400 signa-
tures which read as follows:

"At the beginning of this year our three year old son was
struck by an automobile. He was critically injured. Due to
the speed and efficiency of the rescue squad, our son's life
was saved. If he had not had immediate treatment he would
not have lived. We do not see how we can not have a rescue
truck. If they save one life in a year or five years, it
would be worthwhile. Letis give our people a better chance
to survive. Let's keep our rescue truck! To use an old
adage loosely, their motto could be 'The life we save could
be one of your own'."

William Kovac, 3124 Weymouth Court, stated he was opposed to returning the
rescue vehicle to the County.

Otis Bradshaw, 7208 Tulipwood, strongly favored keeping the rescue vehicle
in Pleasanton.

Gary Nickle, 1104 Concord Avenue, firefighter~for Pleasanton, stated that
if the rescue vehicle remained in Pleasanton the fire service would have to be
sacrificed for rescue service.

Betty Rider, 4393 Mirador Drive, stated that with the City's limited
finances and manpower the decision had to take into consideration what was
best for the entire community. She thanked the Fire Department for their
outstanding service.

Mr. Brown stated that in a conversation with the Alameda County Emergency
Medical Services, they said that if the rescue vehicle could not be placed in
another location there was a possibility of it being stored in Pleasanton and
could be used in cases o~ disaster, but this matter would have to be pursued
further at a later date.

10. 9/12/78
