The City Attorney <br />reminded Council that the Variances are all that is before them tonight. <br /> <br /> After further discussion, it was moved by Councilmember Wood, and seconded <br />by Councilm~ber Kephart, to reopen the public hearing on the appeal of Harry <br />Hempy to a decision of the Board of Adjustment denying his application for a <br />Variance from the requirements of the Ordinance Code of the City of Pleasanton <br />to allow the reparcelization of approximately 12.5 acres of land located on the <br />west side of Foothill Road near its intersection with Highland Oaks Drive, and <br />hold in abeyance until the lot line adjustment has been reviewed by staff and <br />the Design Review Board. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Kephart, Wood, and Vice Mayor Brandes <br />NOES: None <br />ABSEnt: Councilman Butler and Mayor Mercer <br /> <br />Appeal of Joseph Madden to a decision of. the Board of Adjustmen~ denying Case <br />V-78-13, his request for a Variance from the requirements of the Ordinance Code <br />of the qity of Pleasanton to allow the installation of an off-site "For Lease" <br />sign property. located on the northwest side of Santa Rite Road south of <br />~j~ i-5~0 <br /> Mr. Harris presented his report dated July 18, 1978, regarding this matter. <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Brandes declared the public hearing open. <br /> <br /> Mr. Joseph Madden, 3851 Vineyard Avenue, requested approval of his appeal <br />to allow a sign in order that he might advertise for lease his proposed building <br />on Old Santa Rite Road. He stated he felt the Variance was insignificant and <br />that his sign should be allowed for a period of at least three months. <br /> <br /> Mr. William Kovac, 3124 Weymouth Court, spoke in opposition to this appeal, <br />and stated he felt the sign should face 1-580 if it is allowed. <br /> <br /> There being no further public testimony, Vice Mayor Brandes declared the <br />public hearing closed. <br /> <br /> Discussion ensued regarding the sign ordinance. Mr. Harris advised that <br />the Planning Commission had requested a review of this ordinance regarding <br />discrimination between commercial and industrial versus residential, and he <br />would be recommending a lesser number of signs be allowed. Vice Mayor Brandes <br />requested that a time limit also be considered. <br /> <br /> It was moved by Councilmember Wood that the sign ordinance be reviewed, and <br />that the appeal of Joseph Madden be granted until such time as the study is <br />completed in 60 to 90 days. <br /> <br /> The motion died for lack of a second. <br /> <br /> 3. 7/25/78 <br /> <br /> <br />
