Because of the above actions, no action was required or taken by Council <br />on the Initial Study on the potential environmental impacts of the project. <br /> <br />Appeal. by the City. Counc.il of a decision of the Planning CommiSSion approving <br />a Conditional Use Permit to allow the Nuclear Engineering CompanXto operate <br />a radioactive waste storage facility in a portion of the building. located at <br />7164 Johnson Drive <br /> Mr. }~rris presented his report dated January 3, 1979, regarding this matter. <br />He also presented a letter from Electro-test, Inc., dated January 9, 1979, re- <br />commending Nuclear Engineering Company as a good tenant and an asset to any <br />community. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer declared the public hearing open. <br /> <br /> The following persons spoke in favor of the appeal: <br /> <br /> Douglas Bosma, Administrative Manager, Clorox, 7200 Johnson Drive <br /> Arthur Troia, 6820 Inglewood Court, who presented a petition signed <br /> by 155 residents of Pleasanton which read as follows: <br /> "We the undersigned residents are strongly opposed to <br /> the location and granting of a conditional use permit <br /> for the Nuclear Engineering Company (NEC), a nuclear <br /> waste disposal firm, and all other such businesses in <br /> our community. We feel it is potentially detrimental <br /> to the health and welfare of ourselves, families and <br /> the community at large." <br /> Barbara Troia, 6820 Englewood Court <br /> William Kovac, 3124 Weymouth Court <br /> <br /> The following persons spoke in opposition to the appeal: <br /> <br /> Dr. Thomas S. Baer, Vice President of Nuclear Engineering Company, <br /> Louisville, Kentucky <br /> G. L. Helgeson, 872 Abbie Street <br /> E. T. Hubbard, P. O. Box 63, Sunol <br /> <br /> Following a question and answer period, Mayor Mercer declared the public <br />hearing closed. <br /> <br /> After considerable discussion, it was moved by Councilmember Brandes, and <br />seconded by Councilmember Kephart, that Resolution No. 79-5, approving the <br />appeal by the City Council of a decision of the Planning Commission approving <br />a Conditional Use Permit to allow the Nuclear Engineering Company to operate <br />a radioactive waste storage facility in a portion of the building located at <br />7164 johnson Drive, and denying the Conditional Use application, be adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Brandes, Kephart, and }~yor Mercer <br />NOES: Councilmen Butler and Wood <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />~ppeal by the City Council of a decision of the Planning Commission makinS t.he <br />determination that the employment of one masseuse as a part of the Le Femme <br />Coiffeurs .BeaUty Salon at 6027 West Las Positas Boulevard does not chan~ the <br />characteristic of that business and that it will continue to be considereda <br />~.eaUty Shop for the p~r~oseS. of the Ordinance Code of theCity of Pleasanton <br /> Mr. Harris presented his report dated January 3, 1979, regarding this matter. <br /> <br /> 5. 1/9/79 <br /> <br /> <br />
